Imposing, even in 1/50th scale:

The dump body hold-down straps are actually functional (I did not insert the strap pins):

Great details:

Compared to Norscot's 797F, my opinion is that the First Gear Komatsu 960E has more detail and is better done. Not taking anything away from the 797F, I just think First Gear did a better job with the subject matter.

Sure could haul a lot of cookies in this thing.

Nice pics, This First Gear model is quite a lot cheaper than the the Norscot 797f over here in the UK, I picked one up for a reasonable £150. I decided not to bother with the new 797, I think the 960E looks better. Come to think of it, the MT4400 was also cheaper than Norscots 797, & again, I think the Terex is a better looking model.

Absolutely! No contest really. This one cost me nearly £120 less than the 797 and whilst I have not checked all the main dimensions yet, comparsions with Chris's excellent pics (and some others I have been sent) from Minexpo show that that First gear have really captured the beast.

Some of the details are a bit weak (e.g. air cleaners), and on some the paint is not brill, but I am not complaining. This is a great model as is, but also provides an accurate foundation for the superdetailers if they want to improve it. To hit both of these objectives well is the mark of really good mass production model to me.

The tires on this beast are 56/80R63 which equates to 77.5mm in diameter. They have them bob on.

Unfortunately the boots on the 797 are 59/80R63 so I cannot pinch these! Back to plan A and getting some new wheels made for the 797 then!

No need to apologize for crane-less pics...TopGun1954...
Those are very nice pics. of a model that has had a lot of attention on this forum..
I know I will have to get this beast some day...I want to get the Sword T-800's and Mack's out of the way first..
Here in the U.S. the 797 is about the same price as the 960E...
Also looking fwd. to the release of the CCM D10'S and 245"s

the railings are still too thick on both models though, also with mass produced models they tend to come with ultra gloss finish which kills the detail and scale

still a stunning model for the money the 960e

to me the first gear models always feel a higher quality better constructed model and like richard said the first gear model of this 960e make good base model for ultra detail mods

nice pics

Agree on the railings and paint gloss. Not sure how much thinner they could go on the railing thickness for a mass produced piece. As for the gloss, I agree that they need to tone it down a tad. I also wish they'd tone the gloss down on the tires and pay the fee to put the Michelin or Goodyear name on them. Would really add a lot to the models.

Good points.
