I have found a source for cable rigging and/or pendent lines. I use fishing line leaders!!! Most are coated steel with the loops already made in both ends!!! Also are 1/50 scale diameter!! They work well with the wire rope connectors that came with the NZG Liebherr HS855HD crane (comes with two extra), the end loops fit perfectly and they are the correct size to bolt together!!! Now I wish I had some shackles to put on the ends!!! These leaders can be found for cheap at places like Wal-Mart and come in various lengths and black or silver. Usually costs about $1.50 to $2.00 for a pack of about 6 The only thing that needs to be done is the swivels on the one end need to be cut off and the line snaps on the other need to be removed!!

I have used them for several years. These pics are over a year old (I did leave the spinners on one end when I took these photos)...I perfer the shorter leaders as they look proper for most lifts (now big items would need a longer set). Remember, a 6" leader represents a 25' distance in 1/50. If you could find some 3" leaders, they would be better for some uses. The Shackles are by YCC...Now to get them to hold weight and not pull apart. lkuretich, that's cool!! I also have to give some credit to my other half, she supplied mine out of her fishing gear after I came up with it!!! She also came up with crimps from her jewelry making stuff last night to make smaller 3" lines with!!!!
This is definitely a cost effective way to aquire the rigging you need and it's abundantly easy to get since most places have stores like Wal-Mart with fishing supplies or even a sporting goods store!!
Thanks again for reading and enjoying my idea, oops our idea!!!

If you want to make your own slings, you can buy the stainless wire from cabella's or bass pro. They also sell the "crimps" and the crimping tool for a reasonable price. That way you are able to make your own rigging. I had used this approach for years with the older Lego cranes. Here is a pic:

I found some pretty good stuff for making slings at a local craft store. It is called Soft Flex Beading Wire. It is a nylon coated stainless steel wire, which comes in different sizes. The crimps were also from the same store.
