Hi guys,

Is it just me or has there been a sudden drop in the number of users? I can remember in the not-to-distant past, getting many replies on not just my topics, but others as well. It seems recently the number of replies to all topics have dropped dramatically. Have users been banned or something?

It is just the nature of forums. I think two or three years ago, we had a regular (US /Canada based) group who posted heavily and started a lot of topics and (for whatever reason) some left and the rest just don't post as often. On the other hand, we've picked up some good stuff from overseas, so it all evens out. All forums go through cycles... Think

Yeah, that makes sense. I know since I've been here, we've cycled back and forth between the dirt side and the crane side several times. It looks like were on the crane side now.

I comment on some topics and I did post some pics of the work that went on here where I live. I also posted some pics of the pendant lines I made but sadly I think they have gone by the wayside.

I love the cookies and the brownies (cranes and dirt movers) and the dios. I also needed some help the one day and got some, it was about musky master line, it's great!!!!

I just don't post all that much because the area I live in is boring (even though they are widening a road 5 miles up the road) and the posts I have put on haven't got any responses.

You guys are great though, Sal, basketball, hummer13, homer, and all the rest all sound like good guys as do you GraniteFan.

By the way is that the main offices for Mack in Allentown, Pa????

it would be nice of people to comment after viewing a post,it doesn't cost much, infact its free, plus it gives a feeling that your topic or thread has been acknowledged, even if its a reply like "nice pics" or "thanks for posting" it makes you feel a sense of reward for posting maybe videos you shot or pics of machines and models you took,
sadly there will always be people who post just to try prove people wrong or post smart remarks, this is the kind of stuff that drives people away along with interest,

i think that if we're all just a little bit more friendlier it will make a huge difference

Graham

Why is "phonetically" spelt with a "ph"?

... It's better to be silent and thought a fool, then to speak up and remove all doubt

The complex of Newgrange was originally built between c. 3100 and 2900 BC,[2] meaning that it's aproximately 5,000 years old. According to Carbon-14 dates,[3] it is more than 500 years older than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, and predates Stonehenge by about 1,000 years.

My feelings EXACTLY!!! I don't spend all that time uploading pictures just for people to look at and move on, I like a little acknowledgment. I myself try and keep an eye out for "0 replies" topics and at least say something, like you said. I don't always find everyone, but I try.

Yeah it does seem that there just is not a large number of views anymore on here. I have not posted as much due to having a 3 month old. I do not have the time to do much any more. I barely have time to finish models for customers on time. And I have absolutely no time for any diosSad But hey give it time baby boy will get older and I will get more time for playing again.

Well for the record, many of us are sick of the garbage that goes on here on this forum. I'll still through a post up here and there but not like I used to. I'm basically done. First of all, everyone argues over the stupidest nonsense on here. Like the one time I remember posting pics of a Manitowoc 4600 digging coal, and everyone made a huge fuss because the dragline was digging sidetrack. I love how people are sooooo by the book and ready to tell someone else how to run their machine. That's also why I never posted any pics from our company when we do construction jobs. The one time I posted pics and I was criticized because my truck had dirt on it and was commented "oh DOT would nail that truck over here in a second"…well good for DOT. And it's not just me, we saw where Don Campbell almost left. There’s a bunch of people who left for the same reasons. I mean we have people posting themselves dancing on here...now what that has to do with equipment I'll never know

Anyway, I’m strictly youtube anymore. There were a lot of you on here who enjoyed my posts and apologize to those. If you want to see mining from me, I’m on youtube.

I get that all the time. 2007 this forum used to have posts and topics every 10 minutes with pictures and now you get one every 5 days or so. You are right some people argue about the stupidiest things. Also i noticed if you dont like someone or you argue with someone your posts will get no replys...Me and Justin are probably going to get bad mouthed for posting this.... Just my 2 cents

I thought about qutting my job the other day because the guy I work with follows me around like my black lab I thought bout and said I will tolerate it. NO BODY AND I MEAN NOBODY IS TELLING YOU FELLAS TO STAY. Ive been here a year almost and this seems to be a hot item. Do me a favor and prove everyone wrong leave. Cause when your gone your nothing but a distant memory. If your not going to leave, leave well enough alone. I know Im not the only one that thinks this is a little childish. Jason said it best he is just BUSY... What do you guys expect people to do in a tough economy sit round the computer. No we have bills to pay and mouths to feed and sometimes you have to cut back where neccessary. LIKE I SAID NOBODYS HOLDIN YA BACK. MAKE ME LIAR AND LEAVE.

Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.

Interesting. Over the years quite`a few of us long time forum members/serious collectors got fed up with all the crap (that I don't need to mention) and started corresponding off the website about customizing and exchanging different tips and tricks. "We" still keep an eye on the site from time to time and some great stuff will pop up. There's usually always great photos of real equipment and other interesting construction related topics. But then... some clown will pop in to destroy/burn models or it's the same old etc. etc. etc. and the good topics still get shoved down the page.

I've always posted items that I thought would be of interest to the members of the Forum. It does not matter to me if there are replies or not as long as someone learns something from it. I have to agree that the number of posts has diminished and,a lot of them to send you off to U-TUBE or another Web Site, (and there is nothing wrong with that). I have always liked the posts where somebody goes out and photographs something happening. I know not everyone can find some activity near their home but, you'd be surprised if you look around your town, you can find something of interest.

It's pretty sad when the only model tool you own is a box cutter

Its a shame, this forum is not nearly what it used to be. Alot of BS, I still visit but less often, I am thankful for the people I have met, the connections I have made and the wonderful custom models that pop up from time to time. In defense of everyone, there are less models to talk about lately I mean how many times can a post be put up about the same crane, truck, excavator, etc.? And alot of attention has been put into the trucks lately, which is great, but I am not going to put up a post of the same new WSI truck that just had three other posts put up about it.

But the biggest reason for this forum being lousy at best, lack of respect, there are those on here that can't tie their shoes but are curtious to others. That is what counts, and being reciprocal if I kindly compliment your posts and notice that you never take the time to offer the same I stop, very simple.

"Reciprocal respect" and this place would be great, without it, may as well not be here. Chuck provides a place for people to show off diecast that he sells that the person bought elsewhere?Think Think I'm thinking if I owned the place I would have ditched it years ago.

Kind regards,
Mark

Big crane has it right, reciprocal respect is what is needed. I know what Jason says too (been there with a baby as most of us have). I joined the forum to gain ideas, get help and to meet others in a "hobby" that I partake in.

I don't have the cranes like most (only have an NZG HS 855 HD and a Joal PPM), most of what I do have is dirt stuff. I really like to see everyones models and the stuff they do for work, I'm unemployed right now!!

When I was 9 my brother took me to work with him (I drove a Cat 966 back then), he worked for the NYSDOT as a materials sampler, I went many places with him and that's what gave me the bug!!!

I was in the Air Force as a pavement maintenance specialist because of him!!!

So I've seen most all kinds of construction equipment BUT I am amazed at stuff I haven't seen that is out there yet that you guys post!!

Oh and by the way Cat366f (sal) let your brother Vinny know my tracks that I got from him for my R904C are great!!!

I would like to thank everyone for making my experience here great, even the ones on the other side of the pond AND down under!!!!!

Justin E .. An old proverb that i was taught early on ..Everybody can run the machine better than the guy that has to ..

The drop in poster's can also be linked to the economy ..just about every facet of this hobby cost money ..of which there isnt alot to go around ..certain things have to go ..hobbies and life insurance policies are usally dropped first when things get slim ..

Justin, I think you took what he said the wrong way. The saying basically means that until they are put in the seat and have people watching them, they always say they can do it better. Think of it as being an armchair quarterback.

As for not replying to topics, I know others feel the same as me. If I have something to add, I will, but if it's just going to be "nice pics" or something with no added value to the topic, I don't do it. Why? Well, for one thing, my opinion is that forums are here to share knowledge and help to answer questions. If I was looking to be patted on the back, I would be looking elsewhere. The other major reason, probably the most important reason actually, is that every time someone replies, people see the new post, and then feel the need to check to see if it was a simple, "thanks" or "nice pics", or if it may have been a constructive item to add to the post. Every time that happens, the view count goes up, and the replies don't. Then somebody ends up crying because so many more people are viewing than posting. Face it, every time there's a post, there are a bunch of views, and if they just looked a little while ago, then see it has a new post and then find out it was just somebody saying thanks, what are they supposed to do? Say thanks for saying thanks? Then the threads would be even less useful, it would be thanks, thanks, thanks....and that makes for some great information sharing.

Brian
