The great thing about same scale models is that you can compare two biggies that would never normally be next to each other:

Now that is really cool. Now I know why it was built in 1:87. You have a nice dio going on there, thanks for the pics.

Wayne,

The Manitowoc 4100 in 1-87 would have made Big Muskie look small Wink

Yes with all those big machines beside that beast , it shows how big that dragline was .

to bad that she is gone

you have a big part of history with that machine now.

Nice looking fleet.

Is it just me, or is the D-11 too big, or Muskies bucket too small?

It seems to me there would be more room in the bucket, with its 220 CY capacity. I could be wrong though, and it certainly don't take anything away from the model though.

Both models are from CCM, so I'm pretty sure they're spot on. But some quick math:

The overall dimensions of a D11 w/single shank ripper are: 20' 10" wide x 34' 9" long x 15' 4" tall.

So, the "box" that a D11 would fit in would be 11,054 cu ft. or 410 cu yd. So yeah, it would spill out of the bucket like that.

According to Orlemann's book "Giant Earth-Moving Equipment" th ebucket was 27' long (at the floor), 14' high (measuring to the top of the bucket sides, not its handle which stood 23' tall) and 23' wide. These are external measurements. The D11 is thus a snug fit.
