Mammoet had to relocate a big Hitachi EX5500 excavator in northern Canada. The excavator was loaded on 2 files 24 axle line Scheuerle platform trailer. For this transport, the excavator own weight of 515Te had to be reduced, otherwise certain bridges in the road would be overloaded. By removing a part of the counterweight and one half of a track, the weight was reduced to 401Te. For a part of the route, 6 tractors, Kenworth and Western Star where used, pushing and pulling. The excavator was of loaded over a ramp made up out of wooden mats and ground. During this roll of, the excavator was rolled onto the removed part of the it's track, while the remainder of the track was pulled over the rollers. A special thank you to Jan van Wees and some Mammoet employees for their help! Again: more pictures on this real DHS forum topic at www.heavytransport.nlEnjoy, Oebele

Some good pics on that heavytransport.nl site too. I notice they use the same method to pull the tracks over the carrier rollers and idler like we do down under, similar size excavator too. I wonder if they use a D10T to push the idler back in when someone forgets relieve the track tension like we do It's in pretty good nick for an early model dash 5!

That poor machine spends more time on the back of a float than it does digging it seems. It's just over two years old, is on it's second owner, and third mine site. Maybe now she'll get a chance to do some work.

Brian You are not saying it is because of reliability , it just because she's nomad , am I right ? and by the way this is a nice set-up of heavy haul !!!!

You're right, it's not a reliability problem or anything to do with the machine's performance. The company that first put her to work was the new kid on the block, and as such, they were the one's who got bumped when push came to shove. Then they went bankrupt, and KMC bought them, so now this machine is owned by one of the oldest contractors up here. Brian
