This is a Hendrickson tractor that I wold like to know more about. The pic came from a European site, but I beleve the truck was based in N.America. The caption said it had a V-16 twin turbo engine.

I cannot tell you the history, but in my slides I could tell you its approximate year of manufacture or re-manufacture. It is pictured in its factory original paint scheme and was "built" between 1981 and 1986 in Lyons, Illinois which was the headquarters of Hendrickson Mobile Equipment.
One of the idetifying features is the cab which was used on the International "S" series. Hendrickson purchased their cabs but for three or four generations of highway trucks ("B," "H," and "VT" at least used the then current International product. Those prior to the "B" were off the road by the time I took note. This is one of the later "specials" of its type built by them.
Hendrickson closed the Lyons plant in the 1987 or 1988 range and the business was sold. Its management went with the sale and I believe were instrumental in the sale as Boler, who had purchased Hendrickson from the family, wanted only the suspension operations. Valley Truck parts became the owner and an OEM for their parts business. That is where the VT100 model came into being although the engineering was done under the Hendrickson era. That is also how the name became HME rather than Hendrickson.
They also did some tank transporters during this era for the Egyptian army that utlized a cab similar to the Oshkosh "P" series.

Most of these if not all of these pictures came from hankstruckpictures and are owned by the respected owners. These are not mine. The first tractor was owned by Higgins rigging out of Buffalo,NY. It has since been sold to another company. Here's a closer pic.

The immediately preceeding photos are of Higgins heaverier and older Hendrickson. It was named "Big Henry" as opposed to "Little Henry" which was the smaller and newer of their Hendrickson prime movers. While Higgins is no longer operating, this particular truck is apparently still owned by the Higgins family and is periodically rented to other active rigging or heavy haul firms when needed.
The cab indicates that it was built pre 1970 or 1971 when Hendrickson converted to the then current International Fleetstar cab. Note the cab of this unit was used predominantly on the International R, V, M and F series as well as some of their Emeryville heavy conventional heavy trucks.
Higgins, from upstate New York, was one of two firms in the east that owned Hendrickson prime movers. McHugh had the lightest of the three of which I am aware but McHugh also have six or seven heavy Hendrickson road tractors as well. All but one of the McHugh road tractors and Higgins little Henry used the newer cab.
Hendrickson also update some units so the presence of a newer style cab may not indicate the original build period but rather be indicative of a re-build period.
