Rowan, for your information and any others interested in this great model. I've taken it apart a little to show how it was made. I do not know who made it other than it being made by Montana in the USA, I haven't heard who Montana is..
First shot is a reminder of what the 793C with 500t dual wheel TowHaul looks like

Now for a shot of the under carriage

Next is a shot of the dual wheels from underneath

Now the duals from on top with the rear cover off

With the TowHaul disconnected

Now the TowHaul is ready to be loaded

A shot of the turntable

Another shot of this TowHaul with one of my favourite models, the OHS Brass Terex MT5500

Hope you enjoy the photos
Regards from down under

Thanks for these Peter, looks like an interesting model. I remember hearing about Montana models a while back, I think they did a few other custom runs. Cheers for taking the time to take the extra pictures :D

Certainly looks like metal to me, for the most part. Note the places where it's been soldered, as well as the channel strips around the bottom of the deck.

I wonder how much these went for originally as I suspect it was a considerable sum.

Anthony, the TowHaul is certainly metal, steel in fact and very heavy, I do not know how many models were made other than by somebody named Montana of the USA,, I am also not sure what wheels and tyres are used, but the whole thing is a great model just the same, I bought is around 4 years ago off Ebay

Regards

Well guys, since the TowHaul trailers are built in Bozeman, Montana, which is a great state here in the western USA, I'm sure the name Montana has something to do wtih that!
Its very posible that someone at the factory built the model as a promonational deal, and jsut labled it Made in Montana, USA.
Sweet model by the way!

I'm trying to locate the contact information, but the builder went by the name of "Montana Toys". I think they also build a smaller Tow Haul before the Norscot was available.

It was a one man operation, and he was building them with permission from TowHaul on a custom order basis. I believe he was restricted from making anymore after the Norscot deal was established.
I do not know how many were made, but I think it is just a handfull

Whistle This has all been posted up loads of times,Montana Toys was run by a guy Called Bruce Nelson out of Great Falls Montana,he was featured in Toy Trucker and Contractor in 2002,
Link to Toy Trucker
He made three different sized Towhauls, the RGS 200, the RGS 550 and the HUGE RGM 1100,he also made towed scrapers,

prices may well be wrong now,

I would contact Toy Trucker if you need more info,
Regards
Joe.

Thanks for that great info CAT854G, this is the first information I have ever seen on this particular model,, very informative, I will have to change my description in
my Spreadsheet to ensure it is recorded correctly as the "RGS 550t TowHaul" as opposed to how I had it, '500t Montana TowHaul'
Again thanks to all who showed interest,,

By the way,,, does anybody out there in model land have a spare RGM 1100 set up,, I'd love to buy
it.

I think that era ended when the Norscrap model project happened. You know how they say "photos don't do justice"? In this case they actually do.

Things were somewhat different then. These were somewhat sought after.....but yes when you look at what's gone into making these they seem rather crude by today's standard of offerings.
........still have their place though.
