Haven't been posting on this board lately but thought I'd share this mile stone on my 9yr build thus far. Here's some progress on the boom. Here's a drawing of the boom but some small changes and details still need to be ironed out. ![](http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/6291/scan0001qz.jpg) Fixture for side of first section. ![](http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/4126/1003511.jpg) This is the first piece of tube cut and notched of hundreds:D ![](http://img816.imageshack.us/img816/8205/1003512.jpg) ![](http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/5719/1003513q.jpg) Checking for fit. ![](http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/3900/1003514q.jpg) I got some more done with the boom hoist and some on the base of the boom where it attaches to the revolving frame. Motor pinion ![](http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/9527/1003502a.jpg) Boom hoist worm gear and a graphic of it on the monitor on my mill. ![](http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/2617/1003504t.jpg) ![](http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/8122/1003505.jpg) ![](http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1586/1003506d.jpg) Cutting mounting plates ![](http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/3410/1003507e.jpg) ![](http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/8826/1003508g.jpg) ![](http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/6690/1003509j.jpg) 9W Walking Dragline Build Links:http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/showthread.php?t=117Scale 4x4 RC Buildhttp://www.youtube.com/user/Scentlessapprentice9?feature=mhee#p/u/9/59FR27c9BwEhttp://imageshack.us/user/caffco

Very cool! How much might a milling machine like that cost?

My favorite used equipment dealer got it in and was pretty ugly with just black dirt all over it. Under it was a nice Bridgeport with a Southwestern ProtoTrak MX3 and he only wanted $6000 for it and he thought two came in and I would have bought both but that didn't happen. It's alittle old but it serves me faithfully. But new probably around 25-30K 9W Walking Dragline Build Links:http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/showthread.php?t=117Scale 4x4 RC Buildhttp://www.youtube.com/user/Scentlessapprentice9?feature=mhee#p/u/9/59FR27c9BwEhttp://imageshack.us/user/caffco

Thanks you guys. Last night I spent 3hrs trying to miter and notch the first 3/16'' dia diagonal brace 2.04'' long at the bottom of the boom only to find out I have to make a small v block fixture to hold the tube out further to gain some clearance for the slotting saw and make it more rigid not to bend . I definitely need to speed this process up. I never did count how many pieces need cut and notched 9W Walking Dragline Build Links:http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/showthread.php?t=117Scale 4x4 RC Buildhttp://www.youtube.com/user/Scentlessapprentice9?feature=mhee#p/u/9/59FR27c9BwEhttp://imageshack.us/user/caffco

Nice machine work like the hogging out of the gear very cool .Here is a little tip for you production wise on the strut tubes.Make a simple block fixture vise jaw length, drill for tube dia. six places. Tap for 1 or 2 set screws above each tube hole one each side. Now you can machine six struts at a time and they are 100% in line.On each side. ![Smile](/images/emoticons/msp_smile.gif) "The hardest part of machining is always holding the damn part for access ! Now they're supported better and stick out further so the saw won't hit the vice. ![](http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/5613/1003515.jpg) 9W Walking Dragline Build Links:http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/showthread.php?t=117Scale 4x4 RC Buildhttp://www.youtube.com/user/Scentlessapprentice9?feature=mhee#p/u/9/59FR27c9BwEhttp://imageshack.us/user/caffco

9W ..The swivelvise with my fixture will let you slot and mill 6 struts using the quick change, one for endmill the other for slitting saw. However its your call... but I would support the end so it don't walk down on you with parralles in last pic when slotting !

brian falcone wrote:amazing work......that a cat 15 hiding back there??? Thanks, The Cat is the 7C15 "Small 15" version,307 built. Same size as the older TEN crawler. It's my first antique Caterpillar I restored 18yrs ago. I need to do some touch up on it now since we've used it in the dirt. 9W Walking Dragline Build Links:http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/showthread.php?t=117Scale 4x4 RC Buildhttp://www.youtube.com/user/Scentlessapprentice9?feature=mhee#p/u/9/59FR27c9BwEhttp://imageshack.us/user/caffco
