Another in the series of more obscure CAT products. This is a 963D track loader modified to clean out the interior of ship holds. Loader is lowered down inside the ship to clean out the remainder of the cargo during the last phase of unloading. Brochure link Shiphold ArrangmentPhotos Alright custom builders, get busy

pretty cool piece of machinery but the first thing that came to my head was why not just use a bulldozer?

If you use a dozer you can only push the material infront of you, with that thing you can "rake" the material to the center of the cargo hold.

If you read through the puplication, the loader can be used to clean the walls of the ship's hold. I never saw this one before, interesting attachment. Thanks for posting Gary Ken

I think you will also find that the wear edge on this is made of a hard rubber of some type!!!
If anything was used other than that it might puncture the hull!!!!
I'm also surprised that it has regular pads on the tracks, I would think that rubber topped "road" pads would be used!!!
Nice find, let's see the customs come out now!!!!

Back with some more information to address questions. Here is a video of iron ore unloading in Cleveland with Hulett Unloaders. At 7:00, they lower what appears to be a 920 loader to perform the cleanup task in the hold. Watch here

INCREDIBLE video Gary. Just great to watch the ingenuity that went into machines that defined our industrial era.

Cool loader version. And yes, those old ore un-loaders were a trip. It's easy not to notice that the operator is actually going up and down inside the arm.

Got the back end a little more the way I wanted it. Smaller lifting points and the bolt heads on the rear guard as well as a hitch. Started a build post for the model. http://forums.dhsdiecast.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=127965 Don't call it a comeback, I've been here for years.
