Well I was asked to build another column for a fellow forum member. He wanted a column in the 1500 ton range, I so came up with this beast. Here are the parts when they cam in Here is is alittle later with a few friends, do not mind the messy side table Bottom retainer ring Top platform This top platform took me about a week to complete, there are a lot of individual pieces to make this whole thing up. the customer wanta very detailed and large column, I have been working on this which seems like a year but with all my family issues, I am getting more time to get on it as we are all healthy, finally. I will keep the pics coming and sorry they are all taken with my phone. I do have all the platforms on going from bottom to top so I will have to get more updated pics. Jason NIkl Scale Models

Plastic fantastic, what was once a "pipe" dream, has now been "refined" and "refined" into this wonder
Why is "phonetically" spelt with a "ph"?
... It's better to be silent and thought a fool, then to speak up and remove all doubt
The complex of Newgrange was originally built between c. 3100 and 2900 BC,[2] meaning that it's aproximately 5,000 years old. According to Carbon-14 dates,[3] it is more than 500 years older than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, and predates Stonehenge by about 1,000 years.

Appears you're also building the hand railing from scratch. Looks much better than the Plastruct stuff... Super job!

GusO wrote:Once again jason fantastic work i have the plesure of owning a model from you grear stuff. Your column was a fun build, but this one is double the size, and double the work. Thanks for the kind words. Did you win a prize with my model in your dio? Quote:Appears you're also building the hand railing from scratch. Looks much better than the Plastruct stuff... Super job! You got it right there Ulf the premade rails are so much quicker and easier but just do not look good. So on Gus's column I gave it a try on making my own and it turned out awesome so that is the new standard on my columns. A lot more work but worth it in the long run, adds a lot to the look of the build. Thanks everyone else, I love building these columns, I put a lot of hours into them to make everyone special, no one is the same. I will get more pics up in a few days JAson NIkl Scale Models

Very nice Jason. I have not had a chance to post in a good long while, but thought I'd drop in long enough to say howdy. Great job on the details. Looks to be the finest tower yet. Glad to hear things are better 'round the house. Have a good new year.

I get up at 6 get myself and the kids ready to get out of the house to daycare. Then drive in traffic 45 minutes to work, Then at lunch I do model work , and then at 5 it is time to pick up the kids...come home get everyone ready for dinner and play with the kids and do house stuff...8 or 9 put kids to bed then go to my work station and get onto the modelsbetween 12 and 2am drag myself to bed and resst for a few hours and then start it all over again. There is my schedule and most timees I am working on more then one model order at a time. If i could just do the modeling and not work. Saying all of that makes my wife sound bad but she busts her butt just as hard as I do. she works all day then has 3 schol classes and she also has a side job selling scrap booking stuff to our wives . Awesome lady crazy what she does in one day. So when it comes to vacation time we really enjoy ourselves, to bad there is not more of them Thanks again everyone I really enjoy showing off all the stuff I make Jason NIkl Scale Models

Cosmosman wrote:Fantastic job. How many holes did you drill in the bottom retainer ring ? I think there is 150 or so, I can not remember the exact number, all hand drilled. I really do not use any electric tools. There also is that many ring brackets all placed and cut by hand, those 2 steps take me some time to do Quote:what is next the Saturn V under the hook Only if someone orders it Quote:Yes brother i did first prize i had 3 cranes lifting it of 20 sets of nicholas bogies Glad I could help you out there I should have some more pics in a few days I am still working on the handrails for the differnet platforms Jason NIkl Scale Models
