I found this awhile back while looking for D6 pictures. Not sure what all the additional guarding/ROPS/Sweeps are for, but if someone knows I'd certainly like to hear the story on it. ![](http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s359/dirtboy54/Capture222.jpg) ![](http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s359/dirtboy54/Capture333.jpg) ![](http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s359/dirtboy54/Caterpillar-D6H-XL2170617-1.jpg) From the looks of it there are lift points attached at the front and rear. Why or for what use I have no idea. Any info on this before I just build one because I think it looks cool? Don't call it a comeback, I've been here for years.

Where was the machine located? I'm wondering if it is an ex-military unit. If it had a grapple or a winch and skidding arch hanging off the rear, I could see Dahlgren Logging flying it out into the brush under their big Berger yarder. (Go to You Tube and type in "flying cats" and you'll se what I mean!)

I believe it was Europe or possibly Japan where the pictures were posted. Was a while back so I cant say for certain. I've seen the flying Cats video, but have my doubts that this is a forestry machine of any sorts. I dont know if the side panels were off for the pics or it was made that way, but it looks like they modified the openings quite a bit. Also the guarding around the air cleaner and the radiator make me curious. I almost wondered if it was "wet" setup like a tailings machine and the radiators were moved to the screened area left of the operator, but it's hard to tell from the pics. I dont think thats the case though. Will be interesting to find out.

I'd also go with ex-military, those things work in some pretty hot places and those opened engine compartments and modified radiator, filters etc may allow for better cooling / access. Rowan. 1:25th scale CAT 375L excavator

I wouldnt say it's absolutley NOT military, but I have my doubts. I cant speak for anything other than the U.S. but I find it odd that they would not only remove the side panels, but the lower panels as well. Protection, regardless of what branch you are in is always a priority. And actually removing panels from a machine can reduce the effective cooling of the engine. And that seems like alot of excess ROPS/Sweeps for just a couple lift points in the rear. Also the lack of any sort of hitch is interesting. I cant tell from the pictures, but I wonder if the rear protection runs flush or past the back of the tracks. Not sure....but still interesting.

Looking at the rear it seems like some kind of mechanism was on the back...perhaps something lime a cable-laying aparatus. I've seen a few pictures of those dozers pretty guarded up.

maybe could have been dropped in a ship for unloading coal or similar. that frame on the back looks like a bumper for reversing up to walls or into a corner

A lot of the military dozers my friend runs are similar to this but don't leave home (OZ ARMY). They are scrub clearers and don't actually go overseas unless deemed absolute necessary. Rowan. 1:25th scale CAT 375L excavator
