Now, this one is down right hard to track down large enough photos of. Anyone have photos of her other than this one ? This photo belongs to Franklynn off of an Italian forum. This is second of two photos that I have found...

That particular machine was at the Bullmoose coal mine in northern BC. Here a few more for you. Brian

Just curious but, what is the need for the stairs and the catwalk on the roof of the cab? Just for observation?

A lot of companies will put auxiliary heating and air-conditioning equipment, as well as radio gear and antennas on the roof. So the stairs would ensure safe acces to the roof for those items if they were installed.

Interesting topic! Never knew that P&H made hydraulic excavators that where this big. What is the operation weigth? around 200tons? Have they made any other models of mining hydraulic excavators? Have they made any other models of mining hydraulic excavators? For mining P&H offered two models: The 1550 and the largest was the 2250. These two were the latest and last hydraulic shovels from P&H. The 1550 weighed in at 230 tons; its a 16yd machine.

They offered a total of three different distinct models, with a couple variants. The 1200 was the first, and weighed in at 179 tons with a bucket capacity of 10.5 yards for the shovel version. After it's upgrade to the 1200B, it weighed in at 208 tons, with a bucket capacity of 13 yards. The 1550 was introduced with an operating weight of 229 tons, and a bucket capacity of 15 yards for the shovel version. The 2250 was introduced with an operating weight of 373 tons, and a bucket capacity of 23 yards for the shovel version. After it's upgrade to the 2250A, it's weight stayed the same as far as I know, but the bucket capacity increased to 25 yards. Brian

Hitachi must make an 800ton monster to make things happen, Volvo only need a 70ton one! :d/
