25 years ago I had the idea of building the Cat 779 ore Cat 783, but it was very hard to get information of it. Eventual got this photo's from Kress company. You al now Ralph Kress work for Caterpillar and develop the big trucks for Cat. The 779 was a 75 ton and the 783 a 100 ton electric drive truck. But there was a 240 ton bottom dump to the Cat 789 with two engines.

Model Cat 783. I start, but never built it to the end. This model is now in the collection of a friend.

Nice model build also Ad.And now with more photos of the 783, it's actually starting to grow on me a lot. The side dump 783 would equally make a great 1/48 model.

Wow, I'd only ever seen a couple of these pictures and had never seen the 783 before! Thanks a heap for sharing AD, I love learning about machines I'd never seen before. Fantastic work! Rowan. 1:25th scale CAT 375L excavator

The machine with a cab at each end was actually designated a 786.

Great post! I love engineers trying things out, sometimes they work out, other times not. But they are always interesting projects! Thanks, Kerst http://forums.dhsdiecast.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1096251
