Tomica トミカ is the line of diecast toy vehicles and related products produced by Takara Tomy Co. of Japan since 1970. Over the years they have produce a bunch of different construction machinery and trucks over the decades. They also had a product named Tomica Dandy which was a line in 1/43 and included many cars, trucks, and construction machinery (including excavators, forklifts, loaders, and dump trucks).

Although Tomica is very popular in Japan and the rest of Asia, their products have only been introduced in the United States during the 1970's as Pocket Cars. Tomica towards the end of 2010 announced that their products are coming to America, although they are still trying to get a footing against U.S. diecast manufacturers they have released some construction equipment diecast. You can find them at Toys R Us.

On a side note Takara Tommy (who owns Tomica) bought RC2 a few weeks ago who owns Tomica.

I got the Komatsu PC-200LC-7, a Komatsu D155AX-6, and a Maeda spider crane. The singles are $3.00, and map is on clearance for $2.00. I have a feeling they are going to have a lot more released in the future.

Thanks, I'm keeping them in the package because I have a feeling they are not going to be in america forever. I think they are also avilable in the UK, and Canada too.

Here is a video, of some of the ones I got, a guy on another forum I go made the video

I've seen a few on Ebay like a HM400-1, I always thought they would look cool hooked to the rear view mirror of a car.

I have a few of the Asian market ones, there quite nice little models especially the madea spyder crane because it works out to be 1:50 scale, But I'm a little disappointed with the Komatsu ADT because the bed doesn't lift. I'll post some photos of the rest of them once i dig them out of the attic.

They are well built however they sell a lot of the old castings to other manufactures how knock them off. They did that in the past with their Komatsu Models. You might get them mixed up with Tomica and actually think Tomica is bad when it is a knockoff brand.

when i was a kid...around 1980 ,tomica cars were sold under the name " pocket cars " they cost a buck each. they didnt sell any sets but i had a bunch of them. the 1/87 komatsu d65s crawler loader was my favorite and i still have a few in the case. .also they have made a pc200 model for allmost every series that the real machine went through all the way back to when komatsu excavators were rebranded bucyrus machines. other interesting models included the pete 10 wheel dump with montone dump body...the hitachi off road dump.... the furukawa wheel loader and the terex 7281 loader . the loaders all had working pistons for the booms and operating buckets. i remember how the toys had more detail and moving parts than anything that matchbox or hot wheels had at the time...then around 1984 all the tomica pocket cars were gone. for whatever reason, the toys were no longer available for sale in america anymore.brian

It's nice to know that they are here! Thanks for the heads up. When I was in Tokyo awhile back I picked up the PC200, HM400 and the D375A (old color scheme). I also grabbed the GD655 grader and the Tadano 600 Crevo crane. I'll have to stop by the local toys R Us. Thanks!

BTW: Nice idea Tong!

Tong, your custom looks very well done. If anyone is looking for them try Toy R Us, or discount stores such as Tuesday Moring, or Marshalls.
