Now that is an impressive custom! How long did it take to build? Looks like there are a few man hours in that one!

I was gonna say Barnhart.. Interesting piece of info for you guys, that site used to be home to a heating oil terminal that provided many through the NYC area with fuel. We performed the demo of that site prior to the Cogen plant being built.. Also, if anyone is looking at the last photo, notice the water tank in the background. It WAS 115' high and My crew took it down last summer.. It's in the middle of one of the largest sewage treatment plants in NYC..Gives ya's an idea of the height they are at..Great gantry system, very detailed..Applause Applause Whistle

Fritz,

I'm at the Del Coronado. Are you going to have this on display at the Product Fair on Friday? If so, I plan on stopping by to say Hi.

Now for some of my photos of work during the build.

milling header bracelets

milling gussets for gantry base

profiles completed for gantry base and gussets

screen profile of mach 3. software program that uses the "G" code to cut the parts out on the mill

jig use to build .020" base column on gantry. Very difficult and time consuming operation to do four times.

jigging process for gluing up gussets on support stools

support stool finished with 1/25 figure for scale

detail of two types of shark links with brass pins

Shark links painted ready for assembly

four set of shark link ready

early stages of mock up

mock up with upper stages of the gantries mill out, still way to long but getting close.

latter stage of the mock up with base and columns painted

mock up that showed the system would hold the load on its own design...Applause

third layer if hard shell case

base layer in hard sell case

second layer in hard shell case

details of bracing required for the model was a lot like the real one...

details of the 1/4" all thread used with aluminum tubing for extra strength for the vertical columns

test strip of texture paint for the base with "John" standing buy for help

detail of mid level mock up.

Enough for now I will be able to answer any question the best I can about the project.

Mindblowing detail. I'm assuming that the customer is more than pleased with the result? Nice work with the hard shell case too. Will you be showing the company how to erect it so they can take it to shows and do it themselves or are you the one and only trained operator? Teeth Very nicely done!

Actually I worked with the owner in the final build up of the model. I was his model so we went with ideas that made since for how he was going to use to sell his product. Yes he knows how it all goes together. It was a great hit at the show.I proves that with all the computer graphics a 3 dimensional model in real space can still get an idea across better that a computer is simpler terms. It was quite a conversational piece from what I hear and that is what people remember is something that got there attention.
Let me know if you all have any more questions casue this one is put to bed and gettting ready for the next one you will all like but can't have I'm afraid.

Just wanted to thank Fritz publicly for his supreme effort in getting this model ready for the SCRA convention. It was a huge hit, and J&R Engineering's booth was the biggest draw of the show.

Next time I'm paying someone to cut the foam for the case. I'm still finding bits of the damn stuff in my belly-button! Wink

Outstanding work Fritz, thanks a million!
