After reading WCollins' post on log stackers it reminded me I had these photos of a Tiger LS400 log stacker used at the woodchip mill in Bunbury Western Australia run by the company I work for.
This is what tiger Engineering made after they sold the 992 wheel dozer designs to Cat. It has a 980g rear end with their own designed front end capable of lifting 40 tonnes. The market was very limited and unfortunatly Tiger went out of business.

Before we got the Tiger we used to use Cat 988s. Here is the last one leaving the mill.

That's one nifty looking machine, I've never seen anything like that around here. I find the cab jutting out from the left side makes it pretty cool looking.

Wicked log unloading toy ! Never seen a set up like that. Thanks for the pictures. You down under boys always come out with neat equipment.

I've known about those dart's for along time. The quarry in town used to run two of them a while ago until they were replaced with 992C's & 988B's.

The TIGER LS400 looks like a vry interesting machine for a custom scale model project in 1:50th scale.

Is this TIGER LS400 still working?

Who has more photos and information available?

All your input is welcome at info@minimovers.nl

Thanks, Wouter

Do a Google image search for "letourneau log stacker". They come in front end loader style (like the Cat pictured) and fork-lift style (like the Tiger). Electric wheel drive and rack and pinion lift on the old units. Some units are in BC Canada

I lust did a look at the Tiger PDF vs the largest current Letourneau unit (Joy site)
Tiger: . . . . .. capacity: 80,000 lbs to 16' 6" . . . .. parking space needed: 44' 4" x 18' (dual wheel)
Letourneau: . capacity: 110,000 lbs to 24' . . . . . . parking space needed: 47' 8" x 17'

Hi Doug,

I just finnished reading R.G. LeTourneaus autobiography one month ago. The logstackers used to be a bestseller and sales ofte kept the company afloat when they were working on one of his cost intensive "experiments". I was surprised that they are still manufactured today, even after the purchase of LeTourneau by Joy Global: http://www.joyglobal.com/products/forestry-log-stackers

Missed the post of the Tiger stacker back than. Cool machine! And still love the old 988F with forks.

Cheers,

Max
