Rowan,
Thanks for posting the pics.
Sadly due to width restrictions in New South Wales we had to pull the back ends out and narrow the load down to 7.30m [about 22' wide] and 131.00t payload. The body's will be cut into two [2] sections as well to get at least one piece to under 7.00m.
NQHH just transported eight [8] CAT 797F's out of Mackay to Saraji Mine at 8.80m wide and 160.00t payload as we were able to leave the backends in. The bodies along were 9.80m wide and weighed in around 65.00t.
There is another number of semi trailers required to shift the accessories [Cab / Railings etc.] for these trucks. A single tyre and rim weigh in at around 9.10 tonnes so we can only get two [2] of each on a semi trailer load.
Everything about these Trucks is BIG......
Tarantula, these 797B's are pretty well low hours and have been sitting idel for nearly 6 months as we have not been able to shift them to to an extended 'wet' / 'storm' season here in Oz.
Robert, the first load will be leaving Goondiwindi lunchtime Wednesday 1st June so it should be down Muswellbrook around mid morning on Friday 3rd June. There are at least another three [3] Machines to go.
Jim, no I wasn't the escort on this load.
Ken, always nice to see any truck with a large load on it, however our Fleet is pretty well Kenworth and Drake.
I'll see what video's / pictures I can locate from the CAT 797F's out of Mackay to Saraji Mine.
Regards,
Gary

Great photos, just love seeing we have a few of these 797s down here in Oz, pity the Olympic Dam Project was scuttled, I believe they had a few dozen 797s on order, but had to cancel, the economic downturn certainly upset the applecart.. Perhaps as more confidence in nuclear power generation is forthcoming, they might want more uranium... which will mean more big machines...

Olympic Dam is far from scuttled, original numbers were in the order of 141 797,s. but that will come back a bit now.

Great pics and great thread Just a YouTube link to a preview of the latest Roadtrains/ Kenworth Country DVD, which I got at the Brisbane truck show last month. Good footage and story of the shift of a 789C by Hazell Bros in Tassie with their new KW C508. Some tight and twisty roads travelled! Funny thing is with the footage shot out of the pusher at the rear of the float there appears to be a bulldog sitting on the front of the bonnet! Cheers Stripeyjack Kenworth Country Vol.6
