Great photos, keep us updated on the project! I assume they will be tearing down the original bridge at some point? Daily Diesel Dose.com| All Ready Mix.com | Plowsite DOT Thread | If your only contribution is complaining, please don't contribute!

a friend at maxim gave me a heads up that a tower crane was going up over the weekend and setting up friday at 6pm, so of course i went. was suppose to be the 7550 but i guess something was wrong with it so they brought in this brand new gmk6450, only 2 in the country i was told, actually a prototype. was a very nice surprise! they recently just got a new 6400 as well about a month ago. but all this ended up being a huge headache and waste of time and money, first off, friday, they were suppose to have the gmk all setup ready to install the tower friday night unfortunately, the wings didnt show up til saturday morning. then saturday, they brought in a 100t link belt HTC 86100, got it all set up ready to set the luffer, but it broke down, the boom locking pins werent locking/unlocking or the sensor wasnt reading it, so after an hr of trying to fix it, they brought in a 40t grove, it got the job done but then while starting to raise the luffer, the drum started leaking fluid. so the gmk broke down for around 2 hrs. while the gmk was down, they moved the 40t grove around and set the first tower section, which was custom built by terex for this specific job, suppose to be stronger than other sections, think it has to support more tower sections without a tie in brace. but later when they went to set other sections on top of it, the older sections bolt holes didnt line up or something. so they ended up taking it out, loaded up all the tower sections after they had already unloaded half of them and were attaching some to catch up some time. so they are taking down the 6450 today then coming back in 2 weeks to do it all over again. THIS WAS A JOB FROM HELL! waiting to be attached saturday.. when the 86100 broke down the replacement folding out the wing sections on the jib here is the section thats wrong, the grey one taking out the wrong section

Great documentation and photos, but what a pathetic operation. Between poorly built, or poorly maintained, equipment, and incompetence, they need to take two weeks to find a new tower crane erector. Sad.

they had to custom build the tower section or make it stronger and terex messed up, just made maxim look bad and having 2 cranes break down the same day doesnt help matters much. it can happen to anyone. leaks happen all the time, i dont know how often the locking pin issue happens. but they have to get a certified welder or terex to fix the tower section, get it inspected and passed, then get all the permits and crew, security, roads blocked off again. and the site is in the middle of downtown, and in the heart of a major hospital. i just overheard what some of the guys were saying, i didnt really ask about it, i was just there to take photos

Brandon, I wasn't trying to offend you. I know you were repeating what you heard. I was just pointing out that there were way too many things that went wrong. They are lucky that nobody ended up getting hurt. That gray tower section looks like a transition from a heavier section to a lighter one. They could have bolted it up at the shop, just to make sure that it fit. Since it was a custom, that seems like it would have been a good thing to do. I hope the crew takes the 2 weeks to do some more careful planning, and have the operation go flawlessly next time. Again, great job with the pictures, and getting access to the information. Thanks for sharing.

No problem Was just one of those days where everything that could go wrong, pretty much did. I will hopefully try to get a time lapse of the tower crane being assembled, since I took 200+ pics of the Gmk, I think I have plenty of it haha. Unless they bring in a different crane.

If you do a time lapse, focus on how the pendants for the jib and counterweight jib get rigged. That's the most (only?) interesting part, other than the monster assist crane that's actually putting it together.

found a few new cranes the past couple days as the bridges project ramps up! first, a 999, i found this last Wednesday, but wanted to go back during the weekend to get closer shots, but when i did, they had it boomed down with the tip gone, im assuming they are adding more boom but why take the tip away instead of setting it to the side, unless something was wrong with it, the hook was gone too, heres what it looked like wednesday.. and today i found these 3 manis:d/ a barge mount 4100 2 generations of manitowocs! 2250 standing up sheet piles and setting them drove upriver to the east end bridge site to see whats happening, nothing that i could see on the indiana side but on the kentucky side, a barge mounted 2250 and last but not least, the 4100 ringer that i saw back in december in madison indiana, except boomed down and apart, about to go up
