I have had several PMs from fellow members about making lift cables come out the same length. Here is a system I use to make them the same length every time. I'm using 50 lb. test braided line for the cables and, silver plated crimps that I got at AC Moore.

The line will go through the crimp if you first put some super glue (two coats) on the ends.

Determine the size of your loops with pins and, loop the line over them

I use a hemostat clamp which I think makes a wonderful tool for projects like this

Crimp the lines with a crimping tool

First crimp

Turn the crimp 90 degrees and recrimp

Determine the length of the cable and set another pin

Repeat the process then check the length

Make a bull ring for the cables

Attach the assembly to your lifting beam

I use a system that is similar for making pendant lines for my HS855 crane.

I used a wood board and drilled holes in it for the different lengths of lines and put a pin in the holes and then run the leader line over the pins and crimp tubes on the line and they come out perfect.

I used the original pendant lines to mark for the drilling so the holes were the right distance apart.

I also use one of the cable connectors to make the proper sized loop for that end then use the pin system to make the smaller end.

Also I use the fishing leader as my lifting cables, I haven't used the line like you use as I haven't gotten any of it but that is something I'll have to check into using!!

Thanks RI for the great info!!

Tom,
Those chokers look great. Are you using the 3mm or the 4mm silver crimp?

This system has worked well for me. If anyone needs info on where I got the cable, just ask (as I don't have the info at hand as I reply now, but will get it

Great job guys, both look very nice. Wes, I would love to know where you got the cable from.

I have made some chokers out of 18lb. MuskyMaster, I know these aren't that great at all, but I think it looks decent for loads..I have a ton of them probably around 20-30

Vinny, I use cable type fish line leader which comes either clear coated or black coated. I get the stuff with the hooks and swivels on them and cut off the hooks and swivels (I save that stuff for fishing), I get the leaders at Walmart in the 36 inch length. The leader comes in a package of like 6 leaders, 36 inches long for about $2.00.

I also ordered spools of the leader line from an online store of which I got leader that is 120lb., .042" Dia. and 30 feet. It is Berkley leader line too and is about .007" bigger than the Walmart line I use. I also have some that is about .020" dia.. I forget where I ordered them from thought but most online tackle stores should have it. Might even go to a Bass Pro Shop or similar place if you have one close for the leader line.

Be careful not to get the single strand leader line as it isn't representative of cable, they do have stranded "cable" like line, that is what I look for and get.
