Hi!

I bought a Swedish heavy equipment magazine today and they had an article about the EX8000 originally written by Steven Vale in it. It says that there was 3 EX8000 units built during 2011 and one of them was fitted as a backhoe, anyone know more about this?

I cant say about about the hoe version, but the EX8000's in the Hunter Valley here are all Shovel versions.

Niklas-

I am glad you started a thread on the EX 8000-6!! For some time now I have been curious to find out the global population size and positions of this flagship Hitachi mining shovel. You mentioned the big word "backhoe"- I was informed by a Hitachi rep. recently(about 5 months ago in fact) that the first EX 8000 with a backhoe attachment has been ordered for a mine in Australia.Unfortunately, that was all the info available-so no idea which mine or company/contractor it is destined for but it will be heading to QLD or possibly NSW.....

If I get any further info, I'll be sure to share it here( if it's not restricted or confidential.... LOL!)

Anyone know where all the shovels that have been delivered to date are working? Oz has 4x dash 6 units and the oil sands in Canada probably has around 6(including -1 versions)now.I may be wrong- estimated guess really!

As for the Australian units I know Liddell coal and Bulga Coal have 1 each, there is another unit that use to be in WA that was owned by Thiess but don't remember where that one is(I think Queensland now). And Im sure there is another one here in the Hunter Valley but don't remember where.

Not sure that Thiess have ever had one, Thiess were in an alliance at Mt Keith with BHP and BHP there purchased 2 of them so maybe only 4 down under. Backhoe is a new one but not a surprise. Cat need to make the 6090 available in hoe config.

I'd say there is 7 EX8000's in the oil sands? Not sure exactly. There is one in Tumbler Ridge as well.

There is one EX8000-6 face shovel al Walter Energy' Brule coal mine in BC, Canada.
There could be one EX8000 face shovel at Barrick' Cortez gold mine in Nevada, USA. Anyone could confirm this?

Where would be NSW's third EX8000 (after Bulga and Liddell) ?

Currently there are only 12 operating in the World.

I think Australia has 5 - Bulga, Liddell, Mt.Keith (2) and MTW?

I could be wrong about MTW but I'm pretty sure they have one...

MTW has no EX8000. They have 3* EX5500 backhoes and several EX3600.

Mt Keith has no EX8000 anymore. Both have been relocated in 2011 to two differents mines in the Bowen basin of QLD.

I've asked everybody I can think of and nobody seems (honestly) to know of an EX8000 backhoe! I can't help but wonder if such a machine exists, is it possibly a dredge?

'Just a thought on the matter.

Please use this before clicking "post"??? You may be surprised with what you see!

Definately no EX8000 BH's, all FS's. The only BH's that size are PC8000 and R9800.
