Here are the first few pieces of the Madill 120 Swing Yarder. The whole modelwill be white metal with the exception of maybe a few resin pieces.

Next piece that will be added is the steps that go behind the cab raiser. The final piece of its mold will be poured tonight.

Enjoy!

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this one turns out, the forestry stuff seems to be very popular here at the moment! Nice start Colter.

Thank you for the compliment everyone!

The white metal came in tonight so the step piece got poured. For now however, it backs to CAD to work on the next few pieces.

Excuse the piece of white metal, the assemable piece would not sit on the undercarriage without some weight on the other side.

Enjoy!

Chris is right. All I can say is, please don't toss these molds when you're done with this one. I think you'll be getting an e-mail as this one nears completion.

Coulter, i had a quick Q for your madill. Will the cab tilt forward so it can be transported? That would be sweet if it did. I feel like a kid at christmas, and a birthday all wraped into one waiting to see how this beast will look!

Chris,thats a good question. At first I thought it would be cool too. But when I thought about it, most poeple wouldn't display it in transport position. However, the plan is to design an accurate interior/operator station, and to see inside, a functional door. Once again though, thats the plan. he other things are all the drums with be functional and a skycar/carriage. I have not decided how to make the skycar/carriage as far as the line running from it down to the rigging.

Keep watching as this project developes and continue to share your thoughts. (Especially on the skycar/carriage)

Are you going to run a slack puller or a sky car? Acme builds multiple models of slack pulling carriages and Bowman builds decent sky cars. Eagle is another manufacturer for these types of things.

Acme 24 and 24S;
http://www.acmecarriages.com/model24.htm

Eagle Carriages;
http://www.eaglecarriage.com/

And I don't think Bowman has a web page. But if you just google "bowman sky car" you should find tons of info on them.
Hope this helps

If you didn't want to go through the trouble of making a carriage you could always make yourself a set of grapples. Like weyerhauser and the big canadians use eh? Grapple yarding is a largely trashy endeavor but a fast operator makes the company money.

lol exactly like that. It is trashy in the fact that it just destroys so much wood. High production, high collateral damage! I almost cried when I watched a guy snap a nice 38 foot cedar log in half. But I guess under dnr forest practices that would be a wildlife tree! haha

Yes sir it would. For all the slugs bugs and nasty things that would live 30 feet away across the road. Lol. Sorry for hijacking the thread.

It still needs a lot of sanding on the rear. The next step and hardests has been working out the winch drums. I think I have it this time.

I think the Eagle sky car will be the one to go with. Keep talking forestry all you want guys!

Stay tuned!
