A friend of mine had given me leftover parts from his PC450 and I decided to turn mine into a standard PC450LC-7.. I know I shortend the body a bit too much, I'll have to fix it soon before it gets too much on my nerves. Problem is: It has no boom. Any idea of what I could build, that would be used in the construction industry and that isn't usually used with a cab raiser or cab tilt? Komatsu doesn't offer mass booms for the 450's unfortunatly... I take what comes out the most.

I know I have seen a PC400 with a mass boom, but maybe they dropped it for the 450s. I still think a mass boom would look good. MikesModels2011 on FacebookMikesModels2011 on YouTubeMikes Model Reviews ThreadMack Granite Project Thread

Yeah I looked up Komatsu America's site yesterday and they only had a standard boom available for the 490-10. Assuming that the same boom set-ups are available through the generations like most manufacturers.
Example: Cat 345B's, C's and D's all had the same booms at some point with minor differences.
From the specs, the 490 only has a 23'2'' boom with 5 sticks from 7'10'' to 15'9''.
On a side note: If anyone has a spare Komatsu PC400-8 boom and wants to sell it or trade for parts, I will take it Who knows if I will end up with a shear on this baby...

A mud bucket would look nice
Nothing runs like a deere with a cat on its back but the link belt ate both of them

Yeah really! But it doesn't work well without a boom.
Read again.

How about a long reach Anthony? Or maybe rebuild a straight boom for demo purposes since it already has the "tilt" cab-or lack thereof.

Rob and Tom, thanks guys! The long reach will probably be it. I thought about a straight demo boom, but I'm not sure I like it that much. Joe, find me pics and specs then. I know there are mass sticks, but no mass booms like Cat do on their 345/9 LME. PC490LC-10's specs.

You're welcome Anthony, I'm sure whatever you choose will look great. I'm with you though on the "ME" set up, I can't say I've seen one, even on the net. I've seen what I guess would be considered a "reach" configuration, with the longer boom and longer stick, set up for the likes of deep sewer work. Good luck with the build!
