Whats the purpose for this trailer Vinnny? Never seen anything like it before. Probably going to get slated with sarcastic answers for asking this question with the way this forum has gone lately Confused

its a boom launch trailer, crane pulls up to the trailer and installs its own boom.

here in the US we dont get to drive with full boom and hook on.... so they take the boom off apparently and install it at its work location

a dolly is the most common method, i dont know of many places that use a boom launch, most companies go with a dolly

Sam-wch,

That boom launch trailer is manufactured by Nelson Trailers, and they do have a video on their website:

The link to the video is in the last line.

Thanks guys, it sure was great weather to watch it.

Until a few years ago these cranes were able to travel in nyc with their boom on, that is why the ltm1350 is so popular over here, as it can travel with its boom on.

The boom launch trailer is common in our market. W. O. Grubb has them for many of their AT machines over 300 tons. Crane Rental Company Inc. has one for their Grove GMK6300. Crane Service Co. has one for their Liebherr LTM1250-6.1. The last never purchased one for the LTM1700-7.1 which is now departed. They are still putting together trailers for their Grove GMK7550. We shall see if they acquire one for it. The only company that doesn't use them is Digging and Rigging. They send out a second assist crane and lift out the booms onto tri-axle step decks. This is true of their LTM1250-6.1, LTM1300/2, LTM1350-6.1, LTM1400-7.1 and LTM1500-8.1.

These trailers are also built by Kalyn Seibert and Talbert. Kalyn Seibert built many of those for Anthony's larger Demags and became part of the Maxim fleet. Talbert built them for All but understand that All now builds their own.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the lenght or axle spreads of a trailing boom on dolly. DC does not like dollies. Maryland requires the trailers, while Virginia allows allows some dollies. This is often determined by machine being moved.

This is a recent change in New York City per some of the folks that I've spoken with.

In New Jersey they have contractors equipment transport plates that you buy in sets of 10 the crane guys just drive down the road counterweighted up . Hoffman used to move 300 ton Limas with Cwt and heel down the road !!! The DOT is horrible now on state highways , no standards just crazy permit routes and you better know the bridges height yourself . John

Awesome Pics Vin, I like that Mack RD too.

The only company I know in my area that has launch trailer is Sautter Crane.
