Good friday everyone. I wanted to share some great pictures i took today of a Manitowoc 18000. Very interesting story to it as well. It is configured just right for the load it will be lifting on this big yellow spool. Once the spool is full of this composite flexible oil pipeline material. It will then be lifting loaded onto a barge in the Manitowoc River. This is the smallest crane avaliable to actually handle this spool once fully loaded. Due to the angle and the amount of boom it has to be out over the river to load the barge. I do not know they weight of it once its full. I know they usual have 3K of composite flexible pipe on the spools. Heres a bit of history also this Manitowoc 18000 is actually located at the old Manitowoc cranes/ Manitowoc Shipbuilding plant. Where in Manitowoc 28 Gato class submarines were launched here. If you find these pictures great or interesting be sure to lookup and add my Manitowoc Crane Enthusiast page. Alot great info and pics have appeared on the site. Also be awesome if you leave some comments stuff on here. Much appreciated thanks everyone. Enjoy.

Crane to the left is Manitowoc 4000 Crane on Right is a Manitowoc 18000

Take a close look at how the 18000 is reeved. Seems odd. They have the rooster mounted only to use it for the dead end. Plus the hoistline is reeved backwords through the block then the conventional way. I would assume they did that so the dead end would be on the outside of the block so it could go to the rooster. I do not really know a lot about Manitowocs, but this does not seem right? Does anyone have other photos of any 18000s that are reeved this way?

Lol I asked a similar? Awhile back on my Manitowoc page posted this? Fellow operators who run 18000 said its right way its rigged up. Due to the configuration it is. So yah it looks odd but its correct

Here is the rigging diagram for the head

On the 16000 it applies to the 8 and 10 part.
On the 18000 it applies to the 2, 4, 6, 8. and 10 part Where it gets tied off to the upper point.

I know it's odd but on the 16000 and 18000 there are 2 reeving schematics for the main block that require the upper boom point. I think it was 12 and 14 part lines? You reeve every other sheave and lace it up like an old pair of sneekers and use the sheaves you skipped comming back to center. If you are not in line with an anchor point at the end you use the anchor point of the Rooster.

Very odd. It must be a special type of hoistline. Normally you would always keep the hoistline moving in the same direction to avoid damage to the core.
