Can I be the first one to say BOO.

I know there's more models coming, and I'm hoping that the 345d/349e mid-size excavator is and will be in the future (at some point). It has been one model that I believe EVERY Caterpillar collector has been hoping for since receiving the 385/390 in 1/48 (1/50) scale.

Always seems like the mining models and crane models are produced more.

Anyhow, hoping that the Tonkin Cat line does take off!

Good news! It keeps the 994 line-up growing...

Where's the 349 now?

Oh come on guys it's not like they made a 994 loader in 1:50 scale before. It seems quite risky to start off with a model that only appeals to a certain crowd. Only Sword could get away with that. I would have stuck to a safer model to start out with like a mid size dozer, loader, or excavator.

I agree with you ! Very disappointed, for the debut model out of a new company, I would have expected more than a revamp of an existing model.

I'll wait until I see some pictures before I make a judgement. If this is closer to the L1850 than the 994f, I'd be thrilled and willing to pay extra for that. Either way new models are great news.

I personally think it says a lot that Tonkin via Luc has already said that their models are NOT going to compete with the likes of CCM, Sword, or TWH. I personally do not think that is a good thing to announce before you announce your first new model. I wonder if Norscot had a fire sale on some of their molds? As everyone has said, a 349EL would have been smaller, easier to produce, and more appealing to the collector as a first choice. We shall see what the future holds....

One main thing to remember, if Caterpillar want the model producing, the Licensee produces the model, so it is no surprise for Cat to want an updated model of their flagship wheel loader.

I'm actually really impressed. This will be a great model to compare to the Norscot counterpart. I would have purchased the Norscot 994H regardless but this gives Tonkin a chance to really show what they are about and where they stand in the detail vs price debate. Bold move, well done!

Totaly agree with you Rowan.
I think this is great news. I have two of the Norscot 994F's. The first one cost me sixty bucks and had the too short lift arms. The second one was a hundred plus bucks and had the updated lift arms.
I really like both the Norscot 994F's, and am looking fwd to the release of the Tonkin 994H. I hope that it is at least as good as the Norscot version, but hoping that it will be a little better!!!

Well, the 994H is one of the models I would never have thought Tonkin would do.

So, is Tonkin going to get the 994Fs tooling from Norscot? Tooling is the most expensive part of diecast modelling.
If Norscot would do the 994H they could most probably use some of the old tooling for the 994H, which would of course keep the cost down (probably not the asked price though :-/ ).
I think the 994F was one of the good models from Norscot. So lets hope Tonkin does a just as fine job.
I am really curious to see how the tires will look. IMO good tires are one of the key factors to make a model look good.

I agree, but I can already hear the cries of "Stupid Lego Tires! This model is ruined!" despite that they are actually on the machine.

Not to judge, but I hope they spend more time on quality control for their models than they do proofreading their press releases.

I agree. Let's hope it's not an indicator.

Keep in mind guys, English is not Luc's first language, so it's understandable that the releases may have a slight French accent to them.

Sorry, I just noticed Seattle on the letterhead and presumed.

No worries, I don't think Luc would mind and I just thought I'd let folks know, since they may not realize that Luc is French Canadian.

Yesterday when I read the press release I was ready to make such a statement.
But as my mother tongue is the same as the one of Luc I shut up my mouth....
To my surprise I see today that I'm not the only one to have seen it.

And I hope also that member Crane Crew is right.

Amicalement.
