The rereal 950k has a completely different boom and linkage design than the 966 does...as far as the 966 and 972...technically they are the same basic machine and share many components .with minor tweeks, so why not use the same casting ????

Once again, I can only repeat what the company has come right out and said directly when asked the same question. That being: Will the smaller loaders be the same machine, but with different decals? Their answer was a definitive no.

It seems you are the only one who wants them to produce all three the same an redecal them into different machines. To each their own I guess.

Did you read my post? I said I hope I am wrong that the models will be cast using one mold and rebadged as three different models. I hope they produce three DIFFERENT models but it would seem that Tonkin is contradicting themselves. The earlier press release states that all three small loaders will have the same wheelbase length and then Luc says that they will not be rebadged models using the same molds. Who is telling the truth? Time will tell when we have the models in our hands but given the cost involved in producing a model, I am doubting that the models will be very different. Only time will tell.

I agree with Ross in the fact that since the real machines are so close to being the same, the models will more then likely share similar featurs because the differences will not even be noticable once scaled down. Time will tell.

Ross, if you read through your previous posts, it sure sounds like you don't feel there is enough of a difference between the three models to warrant any changes between them except maybe the bucket. That pretty much says you just want to see rebadged models to me. While the wheelbases may be the same, or close, the overall dimensions and proportions do differ a fair bit.

They listed the lengths, not the wheel bases of the models at 7". That appears to be a rough estimate, not a precise measurement, so would it be worth listing the model length as being 0.079" different between the 950 and 966 that you mention? I have a feeling they don't believe it would. Besides, if you look at the actual length of the machines, it varies with the different bucket choices. Maybe, they haven't nailed down which buckets to put on which loaders yet, and that accounts for the rough length.

The actual length of the 950 (I'll pick one bucket and use it across all three for consistency- GP pin on with teeth) is 27'0" (8209mm), the 966 is 29'0" (8817mm), and the 972 is 30'9" (9353mm). That means at 1/50, the 950 would be 6.48" (164.18mm) long. The 966 would be 6.96" (176.34mm) long, and the 972 would be 7.38" (187.06mm) long. That means the 966 would be 0.48" (12.16mm) longer than the 950, and the 972 would be 0.42" (10.72mm) longer than the 966. I don't know about you, but I feel a roughly half inch difference between each model is worth making changes for.

Now, the difference will definitely have something to do with the different buckets, so lets eliminate them from the equation, and use the dimensions of the machines from the centerline of the front axle, to the rear of the counterweight. The 950 is 17'2" (5255mm), the 966 is 18'5" (5637mm), and the 972 is 19'4" (5923mm). That means, that in 1/50 scale, the measurements are 950 4.12" (105.1mm), 966 4.42" (112.74mm), and the 972 4.64" (118.46mm). While the difference is less, it's still around a 1/4 of an inch, and still worth making the necessary changes in my opinion.

I would have to think Tonkin feels the same way, as they have come out and publicly stated that all three loaders will be different.....I don't know how many times I need to emphasize that point. Just because they listed all three as the same length once.....and it was a generic measurement, doesn't mean they are contradicting themselves.

I think they are well aware that pulling the kind of stunt where they simply rebrand one model, three times, will not get them much support this early in the game of producing equipment models.
