I have only just seen this announcement!

Good luck Joep and Erik with this venture. No doubt I will bump into one if not both of you at some point.

Just had this email:

January 10, 2014
Crane manufacturer Kobelco Cranes has started cooperating with Tonkin Replicas Europe BV to produce diecast scale models in high quality. The first model will be officially presented at the Toyfair in Nuremberg from 29th of January till February 3rd. Sales and global introduction to the industry will take place at the Conexpo in Las Vegas from 4 till 8 March.

The Japanese manufacturer of Crawler Cranes, Mobile Cranes etc. was searching for a partner that understands the philosophy of Kobelco Cranes.

Takemichi Hirakawa
General Manager of Corporate Planning & Administration, Kobelco Cranes

“We are producing cranes for satisfied clients around the globe. Most of all our clients want reliability, durability and operability which they count on us to deliver. Actually this was the main reason for us to choose Tonkin. They operate global, work hard and fast and that is what we need in today’s world. At last, we are happy to deliver the highest quality of our new products to our customers and fans in the very near future. I am sure that you will feel more familiar to Kobelco Cranes. “

Joep Hansen
Managing Director, Tonkin Replicas Europe B.V.

“Kobelco is a worldwide professional Crane manufacturer. We are proud to have this customer on board and that they believe in our way of working in the scale model industry.” Worldwide this will be the first Japanese model in this quality what will enter the market I am sure it will be a hit. The first model is one of the icons in its area. We are proud to invite you all to the Toyfair in Nuremberg or Conexpo in Vegas to see it yourself”.

This is a curious statement at best. I really can't see Tonkin putting out something comparable to the Hitachi-Sumitomo SCXs, but I guess we'll all find out in 19 days. It's also interesting that a scale is not listed.

Also; if they plan on selling the models at Conexpo, they must be all but done at this point!

Kobelco operates it's crane and excavator divisions as entirely separate entities, so excavator models cannot be assumed.

Just came across this on FB:

I don't really speak German but seemed like the post was saying the prototype will be shown at the Toy Fair and model will be ready for Conexpo.

Apologies if I'm wrong!

I've been told that this photo is not of the model to be released by Tonkin, but the other info is correct.

The latest Kobelco SK200-9 and SK200H excavator models have regressed back to rubber tracks and big rivets, which is certainly not a step forward.

If you just can't wait for that new Kobelco crane model; you can build the piece shown below for free!

The 2 excavator models are made by Tomy or one of their variants. They produce to a price point and it is the same as the SK330 and quite a few other ones coming out that that there are 3 trim levels to the models and you just need to know what you are buying. The silver one will be special no doubt, but there will be one with better tracks and another more upgraded version as well.
Manufacturers want cheap models but these are hard to get here. There is issue with Norscot, people are still buying their stuff even with their quality being all over the map as well. The oem has some input/responsibility on how the final models are to look. I don't care to complain because at least we have a lot of new choices and painting over rivets takes 3.5 minutes to fix up

Can you explain this "3 trim levels"? Although I don't collect 1:43 scale; I'm quite familiar with the models that have been produced for both Kobelco Japan and Kobelco Chengdu over the years. I am not aware of any Kobelco models produced to date in different trim levels, so please post some photos and educate me and others?

I also forgot to post the link for the Kobelco crawler crane card model.
