EFC is wrapping up the easy work on this project. Laying some sanitary line about 15' down. The real challenge will come when we set 14' round sections of pipe for a combined sewer overflow tank. (You can see the first sections have been delivered already) Stay tuned for that action later on.

Stocking up the stone box for the 245.

Last of the trenching by the 245 before the 385 gets its QH and buckets.

We need to make sure we keep up on compaction. Using the little zx250 to wield a 30+ ton excavator bucket.

This bucket only looks a little out of proportion.

Now that the 385 has multiple buckets it can be a little more flexible and step in for slow old 245. The narrowest bucket we have for the 385 is still 48" wide.

Swapping out the buckets with the hydraulic quick coupler.

We are doing a little front shoveling with the 245 so we can core out access to a couple of structures.

It still looks really strange.

More compacting of the fill.

After a few more weeks have gone by I figured I would share some photos of the action at EFC.

With all of the Big Girls here we need not waste any time laying some giant section of RCP. This pipe is 14' inside diameter. The pipe came in both 8' and 16' long sections. The 16' sections will have to be tandem lifted.

Setting up the shoring.

Making sure we have a nice clean floor to the excavation

Some people just have a fear of holes. This guy won't let go of the ladder.

Setting the first 16' section without a hitch

A dozer would be nice.

Leveling out an area for the next pipe section.

The 375 is just barely able to handle this by itself

Positioning it in place.

The reach on the 385C L is nothing short of stunning.

Old 245 contributing.

The 245 is tasked with compacting around the pipe with the felco bucket.

Having a dozer to help with backfill is great. Just wish it could turn a bit tighter.

Keeping both tracks of the 385 on the ground even with the big bucket.

Sometimes when the pipe sections are really large they need some extra persuasion to seat the gaskets.

Bang! Never a good sound.

Turns out the bushings in the front idler decided to give out.Confused Confused Not talking Not talking ULF?Think Think As the bushings we going out it mess-up the idler to the point the track is not going to stay on very long at all. After a few phone calls to the dealership, a new idler was found in stock only a couple of hours away. Score!

This idler is one heavy sucker

We are old pros at popping on tracks, but it is a lot easier on 20 ton hoes.Teeth

Nice diorama mate! Your crew is brave lifting those pipes with only one strap on it though! Would take much to de-stabilise that load! Would be better having a strap on either end of the pipe!

nice diorama, thanks for sharing. my only (additional) suggestion would be when you are bulking out the trench, use the bigger bucket instead of the narrow one.

regards,
Jim

Yea we had been using the big 84" bucket for most of digging. You buy an operator a quick coupler and he is reluctant to use it.Teeth

I tried with mine.. Doesn't work. So I ended up stealing his snout and flipping is bucket over as a warning.

Didn't work either...
