Here are some pictures of the production version of the Cat 988K wheel loader from Tonkin Replicas

Open front and side window in box. Moulded insert holding the model secure without any ties

A collector card is included, showing details of the machine and a picture on the reverse

Plenty of details, with metal handrails throughout

Excellent replication of the cabin, authentic movement of the loader arms and articulating chassis

Who did the final quality control and approval of the prototypes - couldn't be CAT because this quaility is beyond them. Maybe KOMATSU?????

This is even better than CCM.

This is of course my opinion.

Like I have said from the moment I seen the 988K model in Cat colors, I think Tonkin has hit a grand slam with this model! I can't wait to see the other Cat models that Tonkin is coming out with in Cat colors! So far Tonkin looks like it will definitely be a great Cat model producing company, hopefully for years to come!! Thanks Tonkin!!

Thanks Steven for the pics!!!

Bit big for my taste but that thing does look unreal!

Roll on the D6R! Hopefully they'll do a D6N LGP in the near future!

Hope Norscrap got the memo that its time to move on to another company! I completely agree that this piece is of at least equal quality to CCM, and quite possibly better! Looks amazing and I cannot wait to buy one!

Why should Norscot move to another manufacturing company? - CAT has been more than happy with the quality of their past mishaps as they have the final say in the quality control and approval of the prototypes.

I can recall some of the mishaps like the 320CL, D8R, 993/24H wheels, poor decisions on choice of scales like the 385, 988G/H and the list goes on. Luckily most came out OK.

Hey guys, click on the link below and check out the 988K in the left display case, looks like the 988K will sometime also be available with log forks.

That would be a lot better than trying to scab the log forks off my komatsu onto the 988 Whistle

Look! The loader arms appear to go up all the way like they should!

That looks like a great model, and I hope to add to my collection.

To be honest I'm a bit deflated now after watching the cranes Etc review. Got a highly recommended, that gap above the front diff is a shame along with the play in the front axel. I hope mine doesn't turn up with bent handrails. Sad

I do not know why people are complaining so much of small issues with it. It is Tonkin's first Cat model and it knocks the socks off any Norscot model. I am sure the rest of the 2013 lineup will look fantastic! Tonkin aced the 988K and I am looking forward to buy and see the rest to come.

Couldn't agree more.......well put as we should be greatful that Tonkin is really delivering some nice new releases. I understand that this is a forum and we are entitled to our own opinions but it's not a perfect world and that some will try to pick out the dificiencies with a product. I too am looking forward to the new model releases and can't wait to see what future models are planned for 2014 and on......Keep up the good work Tonkin!!

I completely agree,I was disappointed too,the poor bucket movement, excessive play in front axle, decapitated diff housing and the same system of oscilation as used in the Norscot 992,even Joal has made more toy like shovels with more realistic oscilation,

The model itself does look fantastic, but there is still plenty of scope for improvement,

Why is "phonetically" spelt with a "ph"?

The complex of Newgrange was originally built between c. 3100 and 2900 BC,[2] meaning that it's aproximately 5,000 years old. According to Carbon-14 dates,[3] it is more than 500 years older than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, and predates Stonehenge by about 1,000 years.

The majority of the issues are ok and I can do with them but that gap above the front diff shouldn't be there. This model and the accompanying ones have had so much hype leading up to the release the expectation has been pretty high. As first models in this range for Tonking they should surely get it right and set a standard. That gap is not on the real machine so why would you look at that model to quality control it and say 'that will do'.

I didn't buy the Norscot 993K because of the same issue although the Norscot one is a lot worse.

I like to pose my wheel loaders in a low carrying position with a load in the bucket but looking at this one I cannot do it.

Although it was only an opinion, it was said a few posts up that these were better than CCM, What? Shame on you
