I've been looking for more details since the only pictures I found on the web for this project were those:

"/>

"/>

But thanks to a contact at Mammoet, I got hands on a few pictures of these in their Netherland's machine shop as they were just built. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to post them here, but they really helped me with the other end of the pullers and many details.

The project is moving forward....

There are many small parts for this one. Here are most of them (maybe 80%):

"/>

Can't lie about the cylinder shafts origins... Still, they required machining through the tubings so they fit just right:

"/>

"/>

It's currently 60% completed. Stickers are ready, but I will also do the hydraulic lines for the four of them.

I would feel embarrassed to send to anyone something with so much of my DNA under the paint. You couldn't believe how often these small parts got stained with blood due to numerous cuts or scratches from the steel brushes, sharp edges or steel debris. I am sorry to tell you that they will probably never be for sale (not until my young son gets over teenage anyways as he may eventually be the owner). Just too much time invested. I've been on this project for two months (at an average of maybe 3-4 hrs a week) and maybe won't be finished before the end of January. But I still remember about your help for the SPMT spacer and I hope I will also be able to help you too eventually. Have my very best wishes for the holidays and new year to come, by the way.

Stephane

New pictures of the project, still in progress, but near completion (matter of days now).

I currently still need to do the hydraulics and a bot more cosmetics, but that's this weekend goal.

It takes lots of tiny pieces. They're not even all there. The gate cylinders (top of the puller, on their right side) will be one of the rare plastic parts with the hose trays at the bottom of the frame. Other than that (and the hoses), it's all steel. These cylinders (modified: shortened) come from Siku 1077 small loaders from which I also kept other components like the wheels. Sometime you need to sacrifice some models to build others...
"/>

Now the freshly painted frames. I hired Ed Hunter as guardian to keep thieves away Whatever
We've got mixed tools and bicycle parts here; well it's my workshop... Eh?
"/>

I will eventually build a diorama of that kind. Fall 2014 project might be a 1:50 model kit tug boat (that will eventually be R/C) to go along with it, but depending how busy I am.

Impressive work, lots of little parts on the puller.

I would like to see somone build the mobile platform for the ringer cranes in the background.

Yeah, and I wish I could find a decent harbor crane in 1:50 scale eventually. The Liebherr LHM 500 by NZG would have been a good one, but it's 1:87.

I also thought about modifying the Sennebogen 8130 EQ, but the mast is too tiny, and it's got too much plastic.

More pics, as promised...

First, operating sequence.

Gate A (left) holds the chain in tension while gate B (right, shackles side) gets locked.

"/>

"/>

Then gate A opens and the chain is pulled to the right
"/>

Gate A locks, than gate B unlocks so the carrige gets back in place, and so on...
"/>

"/>

Diorama scenes and loading on the barge... I will eventually post pictures of the four of them at work on a jobsite...

"/>

"/>

"/>

"/>

"/>

"/>

Sorry for the French, but I owe these special thanks to a precious contact who allowed me access to confidential information related to this project, just as Brett did for the SPMT load spreaders:

Remerciements particuliers à A.B. sans qui la création de ces pièces n'aurait été possible sans accès à ces documents confidentiels en révélant les détails.

I know. Strange things happens with Photobucket sometimes. Pictures were not available yesterday but today they're fine. Maybe I'll move to Flick'r eventually...
