I have wanted to build a monster 1066e, 1166e, or even 1266 for some time. I now have some time and skills to try and tackle the project. At least I think I do. I have done some searching on the internet for information and did manage to dig up this topic from a while ago. http://forums.dhsdiecast.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=127831&p=2For my build I am planning to build the machine's boom, stick, carbody, and cab from scratch. I am going to try to modify an undercarriage from a larger scale model. Probably from a Joal Komatsu PC400 machine. What size Koehring does the 1/32 PC400's undercarrige match to? I am going to need several things before I start my build. I have not been able to find any specifications on the old excavators. Does anyone have any old brochures lying around with that information? I am going to need widths, lengths, heights of various parts to get some scaling correct.

Hi!! The PC400 from Joal should be big enough to build a 1466!!!!! For my 1066D(That you guys might see eventually-it's not over yet!!) i used a Cat 5080 as donor. I took some measurements of the undercarriage not later as tonight and found out that my undercarriage will be over 20mm(3/4 of an inch) too long because i put the new sprockets at the exact same place they use to be on the 5080..... Your best bet to build that machine is to find the real thing-theire are still a few laying around, (the goal is to find them!!!!)and to take as many pictures as you can.Bring a tape measurement with you, it goes long ways!! Specification sheet is all right but it only covers the very basic. Good luck with your project. Max.
Cat 245.....Now and Forever I am looking for industrial auction brochures from Ritchie Bros, Miller & Miller, Forke Bros, First Team Auction, Max Rouse, etc from the 70's, 80's and 90's.I am a collector and heavy equipment enthusiast and these pamphlets are loaded with nice pictures of cleaned and freshly painted equipment.Thet don't have much value once the sale is over but they are a great help to me in preserving the memory of machines that are no longer being built. Please, help my hobby by looking in your old storage boxes and file folders for these old auction sale brochures.Your help is much appreciated.

Ethan, I used an old CAT 245 model for building a koehring 866E and an old model of Liebherr 984 for building a model of a Koehring 1266D, but on both had to do 90% alterations to everything. One option you may want to consider is to call or write HCEA in Bowling Green,Ohio, and ask for copies of any of the machines you would like a brochure of, including the overall dimensions, etc. They charge by the sheet and something for postage. Aways wanted to build a 1066 or 1166, as one of the contractors close to me had them. Good Luck, DanielD

Anthony, Thank you for posting the two shots of Koehrings. I see the second one is an old 1066, but not sure of first one, maybe a 1166? Could you please confirm. thank you so much. DanielD

866E Daniel! Apparenty it's been sitting forever by the CP Rail yard, just south of Whyte Ave, corner of 95 or 96 street, in Edmonton.

That 866E use to belong to RayWalt. They had 2 866E's and another one that i am not sure of the model; it was a newer machine(20 000 series). I know the other 866E spent some time in a junk yard in Slave Lake before it went to the RB auction somewhere in 2011 or 12. The 1066 is from the 1st generation. Her owner preserved it.It is still running(although i never had a chance to hear it roaring ) So, i am confident that one is saved from being scrapped. Max.

Raywalt? Really? That's funny, all they have now for "big gear" is 450's, 345's and 349's!
