Hello all, last weekend a very unusual machine arrived in my home port. It's a vehicle that's for moving huge offshore oil reels around the dock. I see it has the name Nicolas on it but I couldn't tell you what it's called. It weighs 200t and can lift 400t. I'm not sure what more I can say but hope you enjoy seeing this strange beast!. Paul, It's a reel carrier - owned by Coflexip/Technip - and developed by Nicolas (France) for the movement of high pressure flexible hoses, used in the offshore oil and gas industry: http://www.nicolas.fr/en/products/special-transporters/reel-carrier.htmlMore on this link: http://www.commercialmotor.com/big-lorry-blog/the-worlds-biggest-truck-theseCheers. Ah, Guy, that's excellent, thanks for the links. I knew the contract company was Technip and what it was for but I didn't know any details about the machine.

Just a small update which I thought folk might like to see. I caught them moving some of the big offshore reels this week and thought it would be worth posting a couple of photos to show the scale of this equipment. Thanks Tim, yes it is and I was surprised by how "fast" it can move and operate.

They look awesome! Someone has already posted these photos on FB asking Jason (Hummer13) to build them for him!

Thanks, so I see!.
It would be some job to build one from scratch but if anybody can do it, I'm sure Jason can!.

I work for Technip and we have one of them in our yard in Malaysia where we make the product that goes on the reels. Then they walk them down the jetty and our 4600 loads them on and off the vessels.

Paul, you MUST make an habit of taking a walk down the port with your camera. I always like the pictures and machinery you find over there. Thanks for posting! Stephane
