Thanks again guys. Just ordered some fine modelling mesh so will hopefully have it finished in the next few days, and then finally to paint it.

Spent some time putting railings on the main part of the tray - they slot into place just like the real machine and can be removed easily. All it needs now is some cable detail and the mesh walkways, then I can paint it.

Excellent work thus far. This might overtake the Riga Baumann as my favorite 1750 custom yet. Now if this had those outriggers, then it would definitely be number 1

Looks awesome makes my regret selling mine. Jealous of all the time you have. I have not done much in a week

Thanks guys. Yeah I regretted selling mine too Jason, which is why I got it again! Teeth I got plenty time at the moment but that'll all change in September, so I'm making the most of it.

So, I took a break from the tray and went back to the reducer that I tried earlier hoping to rescue it and put it to the test. This time I was more patient and accurate and I think it's a lot better. Still not perfect but there's a level of flex in the plastic which means the boom will always bend one way or the other, so in actual fact I have it slightly offset (by about a tenth of a millimeter) so that it sits straight when under tension. I will have to mark the reducer section so that it goes on the correct way each time. LOL.

Here's how it looks with long boom (I really like this, and my son likes it too!):

Straight enough? Pretty much...

And here's short boom which is how it'll be for now, which is what Boom Logistics seem to favour.

Boom have the 105m boom, Derrick and tray. It's been mainly used on windfarns so far, but has had use on major bridge replacement, and Coal loader terminal.

No luffer on this machine.

Fine plastic mesh came in the post today. It looks very delicate but it's pretty strong, and it won't really show up until the part is painted, but I'm almost done and should be painting tonight. I also added some hydraulic detail - not going overboard with this as I don't want the part to break every time I pick it up!

The tray itself is another matter - still a lot of detailing to do before I can paint it.

FINALLY - I got to do some painting. This morning I spent a few hours making a rooster tip for the 400T head and I'm really happy with it. I've given all the remaining parts a quick coat of green enamel and will touch them up later, but for now I'm really happy with how it's looking... and I really need to take a break from this!

Fantastic work my friend! Wish I had the patience for such projects.

Thanks guys. Haven't done any more work on it since the last update however I have been wanting to get pictures of the full setup with the 400T boom head and reducer section.

Here it is lifting the 240T transformer.

Looks great!
How come you built a reducer when Conrad offers one?

Thanks Brandon.

And it's a good question. I have two gripes about the Conrad reducer kit:

1) price - it's about £40 here, which is almost $70
2) contents - I have no idea why Conrad bundled two reducer parts together when one of them is already available on all 1750 models (at least that I'm aware of), so in effect we're paying for what we already have. I would prefer it if only the large reducer section could be bought individually as some people will not be interested in the full wind plant jib setup.

At any rate I don't expect my styrene effort to last forever and I hope to replace it with the Conrad metal version, but it'll do for now. Smile
