Wow, great pics and very, very interesting Smile

I can't believe how long the first truck is and how far back the fifth wheel is!.

Is there a reason why the truck is so long and the fifth wheel so far back?.

Paul. Unlike with Europe there is no length restrictions on tractor units here so people believe the longer they are the more comfortable the ride, which is mostly true (most have never driven a Scania Wink Wink ). Trailers are either 48' or 53' ,and you must be able to scale out your axels. Therefore the 5th wheel and trailer axels slide to be able to achieve weights. Max axel weights on drive and trailer tandems is 34000 lbs and 12000 lbs on steer, except fixed spread axels on flats or reefers can achieve 40000 lbs. I believe the 5th wheel on this one is just slid all way back but would be moved forward if attached to a trailer. Hope this helps. Jim

Thanks Jim, interesting point about people believing the longer the truck the more comfortable the ride, I'd never thought about that.

I've driven a number of (European)trucks since getting my license and now this year a Scania and if it was my choice I wouldn't go back to anything else!.
