I'm searching for more information on two machines built by Henuset Pipeline Services. The first is the massive Polar Bear Trencher set up & the second being 41B pipe layers. Can't find anything but the video of the 41B pipelayer. Any photos of these floating around Canada ?

Came across a site in the UK with a few photos but not very good ones of the Polar Bear Trencher. The 41B pipe layers nothing...

The Trencher can be found at The Road Builders and Heavy Construction Heritage Society of Canada's at Leduc no. 1 Petroleum Museum near Edmonton Alberta, Canada.

Here's the 41B pipe layer .

Here's a link to the Henuset Polar Bear Trencher in question. Any better more detail photos out there ?

Very neat machines.

What do you want to know about the Polar Bear? I don't know that much about it, but it's pretty much on the corner along with 2 of Henuset's Hopto 1900's. If you want pictures it won't be too hard.

If it's not to much trouble I'd appreciate it. Preferably large side shots of The Polar Bear and the Wheel Trailer. Could you also snoop around for the 41B Side Booms ? Dunno if they are on the property or not.

Thank you Anthony ,I'm sure others will want the photos too.

I have no clue about the 41's though, I wish I could see that!

Hope this helps for now! I'm the 6 feet tall blue shirt or size reference.

The Hopto's.

And gere is the museum's website as well as RHHS's. This place is a must see for everyone!

Yeah, I guess this should have been the first thing done. Darn it, never gave it a thought. If anyone should know it is these folks. Thank you 89cxsport.

Thank you Anthony you really came through. One machine down one to go. I'll be contacting The Road Builders and Heavy Construction Heritage Society to find out what happened to the 41B Pipelayers. If they don't mind I'll also post their reply on DHS. Thank you once again for going out of your way .

No problem! But it wasn't much, these are photos from last year and all 3 of them didn't move since. I'll take more when I go back and let you know.

Here's the reply from RHHSCanada President Bill Graham regarding the 41B Pipelayers. Now to find them...

Patrick,

Unfortunately our organization did not acquire the 2 41B pipelayers. They were sold to a pipeline company in Puncher Creek Alberta and are still in service.

We will be making the “Polar Bear” ditcher operational over the next two years. It has a 16 149 GM Diesel engine in it and trenches 56’’ wide and up to 8 feet deep.

Thank you for your inquiry.

I never knew such machine existed. It is something different. It reminds me of something Mr. Umberto Acco would create. Those Hopto's look quite cool without the sheet metal!

Hopefully RHHS of Canada will have their Polar Bear trencher working in two years. That will be something to see indeed.

Thank you.

At least that means they did`nt end up in a salvage yard......!!
Not only that but in Alberta makes it more interresting because It means Mr. Graham might still have a chance to get his hands on them whenever the company who bought them decide they no longer need the 41's.
If it was`nt of their behemoth size, these big pipelayers would be solid gold for any company who do train wreck recovery.....
One thing i know for sure, if i was still in Ab, i'd spend a great deal of time at RHHS doing whatever i can to help such a great organisation.
Thanks for that great topic.

Cat 245.....Now and Forever

I am looking for industrial auction brochures from Ritchie Bros, Miller & Miller, Forke Bros, First Team Auction, Max Rouse, etc from the 70's, 80's and 90's.I am a collector and heavy equipment enthusiast and these pamphlets are loaded with nice pictures of cleaned and freshly painted equipment.Thet don't have much value once the sale is over but they are a great help to me in preserving the memory of machines that are no longer being built. Please, help my hobby by looking in your old storage boxes and file folders for these old auction sale brochures.Your help is much appreciated.

(I was hoping to share with you guys a bigger picture.....i just got my computer updated and by now, it seems like i ned to learn everything over again.....what a pain!!!!!!!!)
Anyway, back in 2010, i went to go check their yard in Calgary.I probably walked right next to the polar bear without knowing it was such an unique machine, because being so amazed by everything i saw, including these 2 things that are built from a HD41 as well.I am not sure what these machines are(were) supposed to do.......
From what i se it almost look like some kind of tack tractors.
If anyone has some clues on what i can(should) do in order to post pictures the proper size, you are more than welcome to help.

Hi Max,

Did you post this from a photo sharing site like Photobucket ? Dunno about resizing stuff.

Yes, i actually used Photobucket.
For what i can remember, i was`nt all that familiar yet with all the functions of my digital camera when i took these pictures as well as the "JPEG" deal. A while after, i found out that when i set the little turning device on the top right corner of my camera on "P" then the pictures has the proper size.
I am not sure on what to do if i can resize them(and if it actually can be done.....)
Regards.
Max.
