I am currently making a dream come true with this one as it's been on my wish list for a while:

Wish list

During the process, I realized that there was much more customization required than it looked at first start.

Among the trickiest parts, I had to shave 3/8" (5mm) to the cab and relocate all equipment on the front end of the truck's frame. The Titan version I used was the latest generation but the Dakar Titan from Mammoet seems older generation which I have no clue how old it is.

Of sourse, I used that military Titan 8x8 by WSI for most parts:

"/>

Then I also needed to rework all the intake/fuel cell and weld the sidebars in brass. The ballast box/fenders/service crane will be machined in steel sheets as I typically do for my custom jobs.

Here's how it goes so far:

By the way, if anyone has pictures of that truck, I would need to have one showing the opposite side. Then maybe a back view would also be nice to have.

I cannot find any via Google. That would be much appreciated....

Yes, thanks anyways.

Works from last weekend: Ballast box and cab, then some of the decals. Box still needs more clear coat once completed.
Must redo one of the side bars that have inaccurate angles, then add the lifting rings on the sides (in upwards position so the box and sidebars can be lifted; holes in box bottom are for metal screws which will allow for removal and replace by fithwheel if desired. Fenders will still remain in place):

Fortunately even with the cab modification, the seam is barely noticeable:

Next step is , then trim the cab interior so it fits in the smaller one, then customize the front bumper as shown here, thanks to Joe's valuable pictures:

I usually don't like to do a step-by-step post as I usually lead two or three projects altogether and it sometimes takes me forever to have one completed, also due to job concerns or other priorities. Both this one and the Weldex truck were started... in March. Eh?

But since some have an interest knowing the making, I will do that once it's 80% near completion as in this case.

Wheels: modified ASAM models. check your e-mails.

Well it's what is most similar as far as shared components.

If only it would have been available via WSI Parts that would have made for a cheaper project, though.

But I was determined to do it; it was just a matter of time and to figure out that I have sufficient skills to go ahead with it. But it cannot compare with your current project. I still do not machine brass parts in details as you do... Think

I've been wondering myself if it is still in service out there in Quatar. Sounds like it's been built back in 2006, acording to Joe's previous link.

Can anyone from Mammoet who has access to their intranet or something let us know?

May I push my luck even more and ask for supplemental pictures or videos than those found on Google when typing "Mammoet-titan-quatar-actros". Or maybe they're using different words in Nederlandese or German, I don't know.

Thanks,

S.

Been busy last weekend.

The ballast box is completely finished, including all decals, service crane and the lifting rings. It fits perfectly on the truck's frame and I won't add screws as I intended to initially (hence why the holes in the box bed).

Next steps to completion:

- Touch paint and finition on the front bumper, alignment of front lights with it, then glue on front end;
- Cab roof details and fuel unit rebuilt. I ended up splitting the tank in two (had to break down the unit completely) and repainting following Joe's original pictures with details of the rear;
- Customize side mirrors with wider supports and front grille.

Most likely by next weekend I hope.

Finally completed.

I added more details such as custom brass pipe, mirrors, changed the front bumber lower bar, made the right side fuel tank, made the front grille, then put a hook and wire on service crane, maybe even more that I don't even remember of... Teeth

Sorry for the pictures quality and reflections in the truck's paint: I used the cell phone but should have charged the camera battery...

With all the steel parts added to it, it weights almostr three times the weight of the initial WSI truck. I should weight it one day Wink

Here are more pics of the 1:1 truck along with it:

I'm doing a local expo this weekend at my local railroading club. Guys asked me to prepare a special booth with some of my die-cast collection. Will send picures in another post.
