Hi Guys,

Have decided that my LR1750 is in need of a make over, after having the model for several years now the old girl was starting to look sad so have decided to go ahead and give it a respray.

Have started and almost finished the grueling task of paint stripping, hopefully last few pieces will get done today, but here are a few photos of progress so far

Well so far so good I will keep updating this post as I progress, just counterweights to do today and all being well may get some primer on a few items as well, oh I hear you ask "who's colours am I going to do it in" ? well if you know me well enough, my favorite is M Think no it is going to done in Sarens. If anyone is curious their colour codes are RAL1007 daffodil yellow and RAL5009 azure blue.

Hope you enjoy
Steve.

Thats a big project Steve, good luck.

will you be using rattle cans or air brush?

It should look good in Sarens colours, I look forward to the finished masterpiece.

Hi Guys,

Well you are correct Jamie much patience required, but the hard bit is done now, I work on the principle of eating an elephant "small pieces at a time" Teeth Ray I am using airbrush so much more control and in the long run cheaper, as for a masterpiece well we will have to see, many thanks guys.

Good grief. The last time I did that much stripping I was in college dancing to Def Leppard.

There are two rules for success: 1. Never tell everything you know.

Is this the crane before you stripped the paint?
Did you consider leaving the yellow as it was? Maybe not exactly RAL 1007 or Sarens yellow, but to me good enough in combination with the Sarens blue...

Nice clean strip job - I took the paint off my 18000 boom and, even after sanding, still had some paint residue. Maybe the paint job on the 1750 is a little less binding. Looking forward to your progress...

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the interest in this project, in answer to some of the questions, Jamie I am using a product called Starchem Synstryp paint stripper very strong, use extreme caution link to ebay site http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361013667340?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT its a bit expensive £22.81 for 5 Lts, but you brush it on so it will go a long way strips paint off in minutes, but as I say its very powerful you need eye protection, gloves etc and use in a well ventilated room or better still, do it outside. Victor yes you are correct that is the model I am respraying and I did consider that option, but I am a bit of a perfectionist, when you compare the yellow of the old model with a Sarens there is quite a difference in shades, if you look at the lifting beam I have used you can see the difference, bit to much for me I would not have been happy with that.

Hope that helps

Steve.

Suggestion for you birdman, when you paint the tracks you should put them on something round so that the spots in between the track pads get painted. I notice on the Conrad tracks they have areas where there isn't any paint.

Good job so far๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ

I use sponge paper rolls (they're long enough to manipulate and just cardboard throw after use. You want a small diameter so you reach all angles while spraying.

Today's progress, did not get anything done yesterday as my Thomen LTM1400 arrived far to excited , anyway have had a few more hours today and have managed to finish all the ballast weights and made a start on all the lattice boom sections.

Looking forward to seeing the results. I'm shocked that Conrad never made a Sarens LR 1750.
