Would anyone have pictures of a CAT 988 being transported? Or, depending on the state, tell me how they do it? Would the wheels being taken off and hauled on flatbeds? How about the cab? Not having ever been in the business, I am just setting up some displays for myself. Any help would be appreciated. CAW

We always moved ours (NY) on a 4 axle beam with a 4 axle tractor and the machine together. Sorry no pictures, but I think in New England as well would be similar. 988B is one of the best loaders out there although maybe outdated now.. Dan

Just last month I saw a brand new 988K being hauled here in NC, it was only missing the attachment and was on a 4 axle truck and 4 axle beam trailer.

The newer ones ended up being an issue with length and weight as they were heavier than the 50W series 88B's. I recall a bucket having to come off a "G" but not much else.

Diecastlogger: It's funny you mentioned North Carolina. I live here and a few years ago I saw a 988 being hauled on a four axle. But the wheels were being hauled on a flatbed, and the bucket on a flatbed. They had a spotter pickups at the front and rear warning drivers. I thought"Holy Cow" that must cost a fortune to haul one piece of equipment. It was on Highway 74 near Lumberton. Thanks for all the help guys. CAW

Aren't they usually hauled on beam trailers specifically to reduce the height of the load? And the bucket removed because of width or would that be the breaking point to reduce weight also?

When we got ours there was no bucket. On a tri axle tractor and quad axle beam trailer. I cant recall if the wheels were on or not. I dont think they were. I have a picture at home somewhere.

CAW This one was on US1 outside of cary, It was only missing the Log grapple, which was still sitting at the dealer. I do think it had one escort, but I was more focused on the loader.

When we had our 88G loaner shipped in it looked like the load in hummer13s picture. NO bucket & thats it. As for height, if you notice on the newer 988s you have to step down into the cab from the deck as the cab is set down real low. It seems very goofy when you get in & out. Its to keep the OAH low so that the cab doesnt have to come off to float it. Anything any bigger has to be knocked down anyways so its no big deal. I have pics of our 992C & WA800 on highway floats that are neat & if I can ever figure out this posting thing on this forum I will post them here.

Hello Mr. Quinella. We haul them in WI, IL, IN, and MI on 8 Axles. IA needs a jeep, and MN needs a 3 plus 2 trailer with a 4 axle tractor.

A couple companys here haul them with 4 axle trailer with tandem or tri axle tractors in one piece.
