Thanks for sharing the pictures. In the first set of pics the cabover was switched from pusher to puller, what is the advantage of switching positions ?

The Volvo was put on the front for the pull up the Liverpool Range. When they got to the top, was switched back the the read for the run down he range and out to site.

So the Volvo was on the back for the down hill only. That makes sense. Thanks for the quick reply.

What's the purpose of the snorkel intakes on the back of the sleeper on the Mack? Brake cooling?

Those snorkels, are for Diff and Joey(Axillary) Gearbox coolers.

Yes the 2 Volvos are HHA

Thanks to post the photos.

@JoeE

Generally You put the second tractor/ballast truck on the back to help the convoy especially in a brake/reduce speed situation (ex downhill road), on the front to have the max pulling force (ex. uphill road )

the load in the first few pictures seems to be an undercarriage of a rail mounted harbour crane.
Am I right?
