Well I needed to start a new model for next years model competition so i decided to make a 1/24 ex870. I am using the wsi model and rescaling then drawing each part in 2d cad. Then i cut out the pieces with the laser and assemble. The tracks are draw in 3d cad and are 3d printed in high detail resin.
Here is the under side of the house

The undercarriage is filled with metal powder to get the model weight. Here is the body

Wow Jason, that will be a gem. How will you make the curved windshield? Are you also going to produce the engine and radiator fans?

Take care and all the best.

Thanks guys, the styrene i buy is from a bulk dealer here in town. I buy it in 4x8 sheets much cheaper them plastructs or other places. The windshield will be tricky i will make a plstic template and transfer that to a piece of wood. From there i will set a piece of clear acyrilic and slowly heat til it takes that shape. Alot of work for one piece but its necessary. I am looking into the engine and fans. Both of them I will draw in cad and 3d print them in house once my printer shows up. I might not go big on the engine since i really want to run electric for lights, need somwhere to put battery and switches

*Looks over at 1:24 Peterbilt on desk

Damn, Nikl, this thing is going to be massive! Good work so far. Who do you send you 3d drawings to for printing?

OMG!! That is going to be one awesome model when done!! Jason, your modeling skills are fantastic, from the CAD drawings to fabrication. Please keep us updated as you go along. This is the kind of modeling that inspires others. When you get this finished and painted, it really will be something to see.

Very impressive Jason. I like to see all the step by step pics, they give us rookies a good look at the how to build items from scratch.
Thank you.

Hi Jason, thanks so much for the follow up. Sounds like a solid plan with the windshield and the electronics. In that scale you could even pull off making it into a remote control.

Take care and all the best.

Thanks guys, I have cone along way in the past 8 years doing models. Once i have the 3d printer my shop will be complete with just about anything you need to model. Pretty awesome when all i had was a razor knife and some plastic. Thanks to a lot of you who have supported me over the years, you guys keep me going, this is a great side job, not for the extra money because 99% of what i make goes towards the next build, but just for the love of doing it. I still get excited seeing posts from all around the world with my stuff in them. Its a very cool thing to see.
Well here is a small update, i redid the counterweight, it was fully ballsted and very heavy. Being this way it was stressing parts of my frame not designed to hold the weight, so i remade one in about 25 mins and glued it in place. Looks great and i am going with it. The blue tape in the pics is holding pieces closed or down for now. I should have a full set if tracks tmrw night so i will get started on the rollers next

Enjoy til next time

Indeed, and that really shows in your projects. Very technical one here; Great attention to details.

Keep up the good work!

Wow Hummer, again simply awesome work!

JoeS1989 a little conversation with Gaz Evans and some $$ and you'll have yourself an ME ZX870.

Got half of my tracks in today, starting to look good now

I am considering making a couple more to sell if people would be interested? These will not be cheap though.
