The Shinsei Kogyo Co., LTD known as Shinsei or シンセイ in Japanese was a Diecast and toy manufacturer from Japan. During the mid-1970's they orginally released 32 Diecast & Construction Pieces of multiple scales called the Mini Power Series. The Mini Power Series later rose then rose to a total of 56 pieces by the end of the 70's. Shinsei also introduced more series such as the Mini Power Wide Series, and also several other product lines as well. Shinsei based much of their products based on their what their rivals where producing including Grip Zechin, and Diapet (short for DiamondPet) which included Construction Equipment, Trucks, and Cars. Although they where originally sold in Japan they where distributed in the United States, and other Countries around the world. They were mostly sold in Department Stores and hobby stores, but where later sold in Toy Stores including K.B. Toys in the United States. They were distributed by Cox Hobbies in the United States, and other companies such as Fischer of America as well. Bachmann a manufacturer of trains sold several Shinsei products under the Bachmann name using the “B-Line” name. All of their Diecast pieces where of high quality and detail for the time. They stopped producing models in the late 80's, and where absorbed by a company called Goodswave during the 90's. Goodswave continued to produce Diecast models including several Shinsei pieces into the early 2000's. It is later believed that Goodswave was acquired by Replicars who re-released some of their pieces (Such as the Cat 992C, 777 and the D9G). Most of their tooling was sold early on and reproduced in China as low quality and cheap knock off pieces.

Here are the Shinsei Pieces I own. Even though Shinsei was way before my time I have always liked collecting Shinsei for some reason. It is almost the same as collecting Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars since your are trying to complete a series collection rather then collecting only pieces you liked or thought where interesting.

#4101 Mitsubishi Fuso K201 Aerial Ladder Fire Engine 170th Scale

#4102 Mitsubishi FUSO/ Kobe P&H Mechanical Truck Crane 1/110th scale from Bachmann. This casting is possibly any Ex-Grip Zechin piece since they made a Mitsubishi carrier very similar to this.
Pics to come soon

#4602 Komatsu Hydraulic Excavator 1/48th Scale

#4604 Jib Crane 1/70th Scale (I have two one loose incomplete and one Mint in Open Box)

The following two pieces are from the M-Series. The M-Series was released during the mid to late 80’s and consisted of 25 pieces (most of them where included in the Mini Power series). Each vehicle included the accessories shown. The M-Series was not released in English, it was all in Japanese writing. Shinsei Also had a T-Series that only consisted of cargo trucks.

M-04 Kobe/Shinko 955 (#4107) 1/93rd Scale. They made this piece in 4 different colors. The first one was all green. The second was blue and had a yellow boom. The Third was Blue with a black boom. The most Rarest was yellow with a red boom, and a blue undercarriage (this one can be found in a set)

M-21 Komatsu D155W Amphibious dozer(#4136) 1/60th scale. This is a well done peice by Shinsei, it is very heavy.

Two Recent Additions

4109 Mitsubishi Fuso Chemical Snorkel Fire Engine 1:78th scale.

4138 Hitachi Climbing Crane 1/70th Scale.

I have always wondered if cranes such as the Climbing Crane or Jib Crane exist in real life due to their unusual cab less design. Upon Some research there are cranes out there very that are similar to this although they are not made by Hitachi although Hitachi did make tower cranes at one time.

One more tidbit of information from your host...

When I first met Dave Frank (Dave's Model Toys) in 1998, Shinsei/Goodswave was a big part of his business. He imported directly from the factory in China and carried the whole line of toys. When we took over Dave's Model Toys in 1999, we continued that tradition and imported Shinsei until Goodswave stopped production or was purchased. I remember that Dave had come up with a process to place orders and to import all via fax in those days. We actually talked on the telephone to the factory rep who sent the products to us many times. It was definitely a different time - well before the internet and email as we know it today. The process took a little longer but still worked well.

We were sorry to see the line go away as many of the construction toys were interesting - one of my favorite being the underwater Komatsu Dozer that is shown in the last pics above.

Just thought you might want to know -

Chuck
