Hello again group, some interesting old CAT 245 photos appeared on a local Facebook page tonight and knowing there are some CAT fans on here I wondered if they might be of interest.

I asked permission from the poster/owner of the photos to post them here and he said it was fine.

As you can see it's the face shovel version.

Thanks, yes, the original poster thinks it was maybe 1979/80 and the 245 weighed 52 tonnes in the front shovel configuration.

Cat 245.....Now and Forever

I am looking for industrial auction brochures from Ritchie Bros, Miller & Miller, Forke Bros, First Team Auction, Max Rouse, etc from the 70's, 80's and 90's.I am a collector and heavy equipment enthusiast and these pamphlets are loaded with nice pictures of cleaned and freshly painted equipment.Thet don't have much value once the sale is over but they are a great help to me in preserving the memory of machines that are no longer being built. Please, help my hobby by looking in your old storage boxes and file folders for these old auction sale brochures.Your help is much appreciated.

I don't know where you came up with that figure, but it's far from the truth. The original 245 shovel with bullclam had an operating weight of 142,000lbs. or 64,590kg.

With regard to the photos; there are at least four different machines in the six photos. And why would you go to the effort to ask permission to post the photos and not credit the person who originally posted them where you found them? You could have linked them from there instead of tagging them like they are yours.

Ditto - the shovel version was always a favorite of mine. Great looking piece of equipment in any configuration... Applause

What is your problem?. You seem to have nothing good to say about anybody or anything.

I got the 52 tonnes weight from the facebook post and I didn't claim it was right.

The man is just a local who posted the photos on a local truck/plant facebook page. The photos were actually taken by his old dad and he was just sharing/posting them on the facebook page for others to see. He doesn't know about the world of diecast nor does he collect.

I showed him this forum and said that there are a number of people who are big fans of CAT machines and might be interested in the old photos.

After he said it was ok to share them I mentioned that I might just link to them, or I might post them as photos and I asked if this was okay which he said was fine.

I decided to post them as photos simply because I felt it would be nicer to just see the photos.

Goodness knows where you got the idea that I was tagging them as "mine".
