I thought Cat were letting people go? Due to the downturn in Mining. I read the stock market pages, its far more reliable for an indication of what a company is doing.

It's an old article
Caterpillar announced last year plans to move its truck manufacturing operations from a facility in Mexico to Victoria, Texas, in an effort that will support hundreds of American jobs. The heavy equipment manufacturer's Victoria plant has been manufacturing hydraulic excavators since 2012 and will now be expanded to accommodate vocational truck manufacturing. In 2013, the company opened a brand new facility just outside of Athens, Georgia. The new facility will shift manufacturing jobs from Japan and employ roughly 1,400 Americans building tractors and excavators.
They have shut the truck program down, so no added jobs there.

Sorry, but the story just appeared on MSN news page. Wonder why? CAT trying to blow it's own horn, or the media is behind?. Or maybe the government wanted to re-release it!!!!!! CAW
An update s of today at 6:15 pm. I just saw on the local news that Caterpillar is closing it's Morganton, North Carolina plant and consolidating two South Carolina plants. So MSN's article was, at best, incorrect. Ah, don't you love the media!!!

According to ConstructionEquipment.Com Cat outlined last September that they will loose 10,00 jobs by 2018, not looking quite so rosy now is it? Cat expects to loose 800+ jobs in the next 18 months due to poor demand.

Then I guess the article on MSN was devised by CAT to take our attention away from the overall jobs being lost, by showing that some jobs were being moved back to the US. Clever. Now let's see if the government jumps on this "shell game". CAW

I know what you mean by that, but keep in mind that the field mechanics don't work for Cat. They work for the dealers. The dealers are merely agents for Cat, or most other equipment brands for that matter

good point. its just sad that the flagship of our fleet is at the mercy of the mechanics laptop far more often than what it replaced
