Yea it's a cool wheel but......................it's not really close to anything that New York is known for.

When I saw that I thought "that looks like the London Eye".

After reading some of the info I now know why!

Think I would partly disagree. New York is perhaps not known for wheels per-say, but it it known for its skyline and is probably one of the most famous in the world. This wheel will apparently give a unique perspective if this view so I have to think would be pretty cool. After all, it is 190m tall!

Before 1999 London also wasn't known for it's London Eye , because it wasn't there.
And have look now if you google for london+highlights and images , count the images of the Eye.
I guess you need to give these things some time.

The funny thing is, that The London Eye was only meant to be a temporary attaction, then it was going to be torn down.

I hope it goes better for New York than the wheel being built in Dubai. The Mammoet PTC has been sat there doing nothing for more than 6 months because of problems!

Mammoet is currently prepping the LR 11350 for delivery to NYC. I spoke to a Mammoet employee about it last week. I believe it will be arriving in NYC sometime in June.

This is a pic of the Dubai Eye hub. If the NYC wheel is gonna be bigger I assume it will take a bit more than a single 11350. The Dubai has the DS200 and the LR30000(as a tail rig).

I've been on the London Eye twice and would go again and again. It's wonderful at dusk. You can see things that you wouldn't ordinarily see on the ground. It has brought immense income to the city. Every weekend, it's like a festival all around the area. Plenty of small vendors make a living around the area. Tourist flock to it, and there's almost always a queue. Kids would rather go there than to all the old cathedrals and castles. I hope this one works as well. CAW

Even the Eifeltower was meant to be there only for 20 years.

Hummer,
Check out the first post. It looks like it's on Staten Island facing NYC right next to the Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

Updated photos. They will partially assemble the 11350 and 1600, then load them and all parts on a ro-ro boat and bring them to the wheel site

Nice shots. Will be interesting to see this progress.

Have you seen the photos from the Dubai wheel with the PTC and LR 11300?

Thanks,

I'm bringing this thread back to the top, noticed today that the big cranes started moving to the job via barge. Hopefully someone can get some better pictures as the angle on the webcam is not great.

Webcam link is at the top of this thread
