Quick Question, but have there been any crawler cranes made in 1/50th scale that have 3 drums for pile driving applications. I would think that there would be at least one out there made for this purpose? If not we are more than overdue for a 1/50 crawler with 3 drums. I am not really a diecast crane guy because I can care less about all the cranes and livery's produced for companies such as Mammoet, or Sarens, however I would be tempted to buy a construction spec'd 1/50 crawler crane with 3 drums.

The Manitowoc 555 with the TWH boom has a 3rd line in the boom butt. I've ran all three lines and put swinging leads on it. The problem is, there's not 3 top sheaves in the head...right now I have my 4100 set up with the swinging leads and all the piles are in a template. You could also use 2 cranes, one as the pile driver and one to feed the pile (this is how we do it on a regular bases where I work.)

The Conrad Liebherr HS 88* (1, 2, 3 or 5) would be a great model to start with in my opinion. It has three drums and three sheaves on the boom tip. It's an old model, but solidly made and would serve your purpose. On early models, the forward most drum was spooled with line, but the later versions were not. Check it out?

None of the Liebherr 881 thru 885 have 3 drums...you can take a Liebherr 1280, and convert it to a 895 and have 3 drums....

Back in the day we used a sling from the hammer to lift the pile up ,then locked the gates before lowering the hammer onto the pile Sd90

Thanks guys for the info and advice, most of the pile driving cranes around here use swinging leads because they are used for road construction and perform other task than just driving piles. The two Conrad HS Series of cranes would been the perfect models to have 3 drums. I just think the problem is that most diecast cranes are either made in the lift, duty cycle, or dragline configurations.

Would the Conrad Sennebogen Starlifter 5500 work (in main boom configuration)? Seems like you should have an extra drum if you didn't attach the luffing jib.

Justin This isn't three drums? You can see the thumbscrews for all three winches in the photo below.

The 3rd drum I was referring to is an actual extra line in addition to the headache line, and main hoist line. This Manitowoc 1000 has 3 drums as evident by the 3 lines. The company that owns this one also has a brand new one that has 3 drums too. This Kobelco CK2500 on the same job also has 3 lines. It was driving piles, and setting precast concrete culverts.
