And it is an ignorant question I am sure (but that is because I am a newbie and I am ignorant). Sorry. On the old TWH Manitowoc 4100 the instructions say to use the first drum for the main hoist block. So when adding a jib boom to the crane, should I stay with the original configuration and run the jib line from the second drum? Or does adding the jib mean I should reverse the drums and use the first one on the jib and the second one for the main? I have no clue what the rules of rigging are for the 1:1s. Thanks in advance for helping me not be quite so ignorant.

Don L. When in doubt ALWAYS check out the internet, especially the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) ! Manitowoc 4100 brochures can be found here: https://www.manitowoccranes.com/en/cranes/manitowoc/Manitowoc-product-literature/archiveRandy

Don, I looked at several of my 4100's with jibs, and then looked at the TWH assembly instructions for the #123 jib. Several versions of the instructions infer that you use the upper drum for the jib and the lower, front drum for the load block. That is the configuration that I have used. I looked up the drum and lagging chart on Manitowoc Engineering document 6105 and it confirms that the whip is the rear drum.

Thanks Randy. I thought I would try the "lazy route" this time. Especially, when there are so many experts here in this forum. Take care.

Ed Much thanks Ed. That's the way I rigged it, but I wanted to double check to be sure. All the expertise and 1:1 knowledge in here must be affecting me, because I suddenly wanted to make sure I rigged it correctly. Before to joining this forum, I wouldn't have even known the difference. Thanks again.
