Time to add another project to the list that will take a long time to complete. I like working on these old Ertl 631 models. You can do as much or as little as you want to modify them. The 631E II will be an easy conversion. Pretty much I am going to be modifying the hood and grill. Square it up and add some styrene. The 631C is turning out to be quite the build. Not much is going to be kept from the old E model. The hood, push block, front bumper, fuel tank, bowl sides, draft arms, cab, and front fenders all need attention. I am going to be building a wide hood model because I think it looked meaner than the narrow hood models. What was the difference between the two "C" models? I believe both came with the D343 engine.

Ethan,
If you aren't pursuing a degree in industrial design. You should. Now, I not telling you how to live your life but your design sight set on looks is exactly. What is important with a over all buyer. Whether we humans like to admit or not.
Like the big companies already know. If it looks mean ? It must be mean. In our equipment world ,the same thing.
Young Man go forth & pursuit your calling.
Like your design thinking method.

Coming along well, I'm digging it. I like the detail you put into the grill.

Hi "Basket", That 631C looks very promising, keep us updated!! Your Terex S-24 will have some company..... Max.
Cat 245.....Now and Forever I am looking for industrial auction brochures from Ritchie Bros, Miller & Miller, Forke Bros, First Team Auction, Max Rouse, etc from the 70's, 80's and 90's.I am a collector and heavy equipment enthusiast and these pamphlets are loaded with nice pictures of cleaned and freshly painted equipment.Thet don't have much value once the sale is over but they are a great help to me in preserving the memory of machines that are no longer being built. Please, help my hobby by looking in your old storage boxes and file folders for these old auction sale brochures.Your help is much appreciated.

Thank you for this posting. I have a couple of excavators that I really like, but they do not have the detail I am looking for - mostly hydraulic hoses. I have considered modifying them, but was afraid of ruining their value. But I just realized that they have no value, except to me, as they are inexpensive models. Time to find some hose.

You can find some electronic wiring in old computers that will be small enough to look realistic. Telephone wiring can be a great idea as well. All you need to do is to peel the outside grey or black lining and Inside, you'll find all kind of smaller wiring. Good luck with your projects. Max.

More work to the Cat 631C. Had to revise the ROPS to make it more accurate.

Looks good. Now you'll need to build a Killer B and a Muckin' D!
Are you an enviromentist, or do you work for a living?

Finished the 631C. I am really happy with how it turned out. I really like the wide nose grill. That is main reason I built the model.

I do say the D9L looks like a good pair for the 631C. Next to a stockish 631E

I was thinking that you had built a D, but I've had a few drinks since then! Your scrapers look good. Keep up the good work!

I'm an old scraper hand and you my good sir nailed it. They look fantastic.
Ran 31D/E/E-II and seeing your models brought back some good memories.
