This is looking fantastic Jamie.
I have two questions: what did you use for the glass inside the cab, and what gauge of mesh have you used for the walkways?

Thanks for the comments. Davie, the mesh I bought a long time ago in a big sheet off Ebay. It's mesh count 30 and here's a link to what I assume to be the same stuff - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-Steel-woven-wire-mesh-30cm-square-sheet-Fine-Heavy-duty-coarse-/261722409245?var=&hash=item3cefdf091d:m:myisTEt08FiFKf78OZQUr8w The cab glass is thick acetate (can't remember the thickness, but it's nice and sturdy), covered in car window tint film. Again, I bought a big roll on Ebay years ago, and it's still going strong. The green's a bit too dark for most models, but it looks great on white Liebherrs.

Almost there now, just a few things still to add (beacon, more lights, ladder railings, door handles, more fire extinguishers and of course decals). The decals will transform the model, and I've decided to make it a P&H shovel. Possibly calling it a 3800 TECH SHOVEL (sounds convincing). Really nice finish, as always with your models. It looks SO CLEAN! Do you airbrush or do you spray with aerosol cans? I had very satisfactory results on my recent project with the 11200 cylinders and counterweights using some aerosol acrylic paint.

Thanks guys. I use Montana acrylic spray cans for the colours, and Rustoleum Rust Reformer matt black base coat then Lidl's Matt Black Car Paint (actually a fantastic satin finish) for the top coat. The Montana cans are only £3.50 each and the Lidl's paint is less than that.
The great things about Montana is they do a massive range of colours and the quality of finish, concentration of pigment, quick drying and ease of use are all superb.

Absolutely fantastic!!!! the finish looks better than the big manufacturers,really fits in well beside the Bucyrus shovel and dump truck and well at home in your dio,thanks for sharing,looking forward to the next project

This model shows that there is a huge choice of rope shovel models which could be available is companies allowed there older machines to be modelled. Perhaps Komatsu's purchase of P & H will allow their large range of current and past shovels to be modelled. Your scratch built shovel is a fine testament to you skill Jamie,, well done.
