We lost a fine person and craftsman who was an inspiration to me, and I am sure, to other members of this forum in the person of Mr. Tom McCollough, who went my the handle of RI CRANEMAN. I had chatted with him in December about his latest project, a barge that he had posted the progress of on the forum. I had received a private message via the DHS forum from his wife, Mrs. McCollough, of his passing on January 6, of a fast-progressing cancer. Needless to say, I was shocked to hear of the passing of this friendly person with which I had the pleasure of communicating with.

Those who had followed his various projects had seen the detail and dedication he displayed in creating them. He also took the time to photograph how he created them, and as the sharing person that he was, would always offer tips to modelers.

As I had not seen on the forum any mention of Tom's passing, I felt that I should recognize him, and display some of his creations here on the forum.

The barge project Tom was working on:

Detail of the engine compartment:

The beautiful piledriver he made, using the Lionel P&H crane kit:

A detail of the hammer on the piledriver:

Some smaller items he made: a worktable with vise, soda machine and rolling toolbox:

"/>

"/>

A construction field office:

"/>

Crane mats:

"/>

And here is the base he made for his Manitowoc Ringer. This was the project that first brought him to my attention.

"/>

These are just a small sampling of the excellent models Mr. McCullough created during his retirement. He will be remembered. My thoughts are with his wife and family.

RIP. Was a wonderful guy, and loved seeing his projects over the years. Prayers are with him and his family.

His presence here will be missed. I always thought him to be one of the more pleasant on-screen personalities, which, to me, seemed like a guy I would have liked to meet.

That is very sad news indeed. I hope that his wife is aware of Tom's influence on this forum and in the community - he was a highly skilled craftsman and always turned heads with his creations, which I'm sure will continue to inspire model builders like myself for many years to come.

One of my favourites was his chain-puller diorama, which can be found here.

Very sad news to say the least!! 😣😣😣 I myself have had pm discussions with him too. He will surely be missed and prayers to all his family as they go thru this hard time.

R.I.P. Tom, may the diecast/styrene gods shine down on you with the best stuff to work with and the best cement to put it all together with.

Very sad to read this. When I saw the topic I realized I hadn't seen anything new from him for a while, then immediately wondered. Awful to hear. RIP RI CRANEMAN.

Wow that really is a nasty shock to hear this news. As many have said he came across as a true gentleman and was passionate about his hobby.

My thoughts go to his family during this tough time. He will certainly be missed by all.

I'm very sad to hear this, he was not only a master craftsman but a craftsman who took the time to help teach others his tricks of the trade. His contributions towards this hobby will not be forgotten!

Thoughts and prayers for him and his family. Rest In Peace.
