Hello members,

One of my Hitachi ZX870 machines is down, for a broken track. One day, I noticed how loose the track was, and today, while repositioning the machine, it came off. While putting it back on, a couple of the lugs on two track pads broke off. Now, the track is too short to put back on, even with the track tensioner fully retracted.

Is there a way to obtain a replacement track, or is there a subsitute that may work as a total replacement for both tracks?

Any advice would be greatloy appreciated!! Thanks to all in advance.

It depends, if this is a model who it's made by (NZG, Conrad or other). If it's NZG or Conrad you can contact their customer service and ask for some replacement links, they require the model number and what part you need. If it's another manufacturer you might have to contact the place you purchased it from and see if they might replace the track.

I'm a kid at heart, so I will play with any model construction vehicle from 1:87 scale to 1:1 scale!!!!

The 870 is made by WSI. I'm pretty sure they included a few spare tracks in the bag of parts that came with it. If you don't have those I bet WSI has more.

dain555,

The model in question is the WSI Hitach zx 870. I had contacted another forum member who hopefully can help out. I am not sure if DHS has a spare track for this model. I can also try WSI directly. Both of your suggestions are definitely paths I can pursue. I hope that wherever I wind up obtaining the track, this is solved soon, as I truly enjoy this model, and having it "out of commission" is a bummer!

Thank you for your suggestions.

chevyman,

Thank you for your suggestion!! I have three of those zx 870 machines, along with their boxes. I do not remember if the models came with extra track pads, but I will have to dig out the boxes in the closet (buried, no doubt!) and see if the extra pads were included. Hopefully WSI did provide extras.

Thank you again.

I have a few still in the box and I see no extra tracks. I have one model that several tracks broke while sitting in the display case, I don't play with the models. I went to pick it up one day to rearrange the display case and the tracks completely fell apart. I think there is a bad batch of track links that made its way into some of the models we bought.

I ended up "repairing" the tracks by using 2 part steel putty and pressing it inside the tracks to hold them together. They don't roll anymore but I am okay with it.

I just checked mine, no extra track links. I thought WSI included some, oh well...

I just bought new ISM tracks for mine. Best thing I ever did! I don't like how the WSI tracks are so narrow so I got the 19mm ones and it looks so much better. I'll post some pictures

Scheggaboochee,

Hello, I am certainly looking forward to seeing your pictures of the ISM tracks you purchased for your model. May I ask, where did you purchase them? Like you, I prefer the wider tracks, rather than the narrow (quarry?) sized stock tracks that were fitted to the model.

I would appreciate your info on where to obtain the ISM tracks for replacement.

I thank you in advance.

Sincerely,
Mario T

I was told that the tracks are molded from the CCM 385. I hope the pictures help!!

Scheggaboochee,

Thank you for posting the excellent photos. The photo where you show the stock WSI tracks along with the ISM tracks on the machine together is a good comparison. I like the width of the ISM tracks, which makes the model look much better.

Thanks again. I have already ordered the tracks.

Enjoy your Fourth of July,

Jake, They Look fantastic on the 870, I've been meaning to test them out on it, but haven't got to it yet.

Do it!!! Makes a huge difference. Even on the Diecast Masters 390, same size as the stock tracks just look much better!

Thanks to all of the members on the forum who responded to me for my dilemma, and for helping me solve the problem of a broken track on my Hitachi ZX870 excavator. I was directed to Industrial Scale Models, who provided me with replacement tracks for my models. These tracks are superb, and definitely upgrade the appearance of the model, with high detail and wider width. Thanks ISM!!

Again, thanks to the members of the forum!!
